OK not a rifle story but still a hunting story,lol.
Spring also means it is time for one of my favorite hunts. The bear hunt. We usually try our luck at the southern bear. Jay, Jason and I set baits and tend to them all spring hoping there is at least ONE farmland bear willing to show himself during huntable hours. NOPE! LOL. With our poor luck down south we jumped at the chance to meet Doug from Bear Down Outfitters out of LaRonge Saskatchewan. Finally a hunt for bears in their natural habitat! With Jay unable to come during the time we were to head north Jason and I headed to the pine covered north. There we hooked up with Doug and buddy Brad from saskatchewanhunts.ca. They told us of how we could "shop" for the bear we wanted. Also advised us to not shoot the first bear we see. We were to see LOTS of bears they told us. A new concept for us southern guys,lol. Man did we see bears! It took as little as 5 minutes after being dropped off at the baits and we had action. 6 hours of sitting in the stand and had no less then 5.5 hours of bear watching each night!
This is what bear hunted should be! We seen bears of all shapes sizes and colors.It was awesome! We even met some bears that were VERY interested in us.To the point of being uncomfortable at times,lol. This unique bear played tug a war with me on camera with a rope. It looked "cute" but, I think he was kind of hoping the rope was attached to me and he was going to pull that skinny guy out of the tree,lol.
I ended up getting a book bear with the APA bow. Awesome footage of the beast! Cant wait for you all to see it.
Jason got this dandy bear on camera after letting 11 bears walk prior. He said " there is no way I am shooting # 13" LOL so....
Would I drive the 7.5 hours north again to Bear Down outfitters? YES! Today if I could,lol
