20 vartarg info

Go zero freebore on the reamer and AA2200 has worked the best for me. H4198 and reloader 7 is good to.

Anyone of the 3 powders L Sherm mentioned are good. I have 2 VT's,
one shoots H4198 and the other likes Reloader 7, both with 32gr Nosler Lead Free
bullets.

I have tried 1680 I just don't like the case fill percentage I'm a 90% + guy if possible seems to be consistent for me. I like 2200 for the speed and the way it meters.

After putting this build on the back burner for months, I finally did some load development and I should have got the vartarg up and running sooner!!!!!
Using 32gr dog town bullets for fireform loads, it absolutely hammers tiny little single holes @3500fps and shreds turtles at 150yds!!!
Out of all the precision rifles I have built over the years, this one is crazy fun.
As far as loads go, settled in on 18.5g of h322. Got consistant speed with no case head separations on fire forming and it meters like a dream.
Warning**** graphic **** these guys eat my bass and bluegill

If your a velocity guy the 20SCC (20VTAI) will get you 4000f.p.s with a 32 gr. Pill using AA2200 and just as accurate.

field update: 40gr vmax @ 3400, 19.5gr 4198, not the fastest load, but accurate, smoked a coyote @275yds , DRT! The vartarg continues to impress, one of the coolest rounds out there!

I've just built a 20VT with a Wilson 10 Twist barrel and 20 grs. AA-2200 w/ 34 gr. HP (Varmint Nightmare) & 7½BR gives me 3800 fps with good accuracy and no Pressure signs. The Other Powder that is very good is Hodgdon CFE BLK - - 34 gr. hp w/ 19.0 grs. @ 3831 fps. with no pressure signs. I also got a 5/16" group @ 200 yds with a 34 gr. hp over AA-2200 and a 7½ primer, probably an accident!

Check out Saubier Forum. That is where all us small caliber guys hang out.. If you do a search there is a ton of info on the 20 Vartarg, way more than you will ever want to know. It isn't an HTTPS site so some browsers warn you but it is completely safe. I have the same user name there too.
