If anyone has any information on shooting heavy bullets in a 1 in 7 1/2 inch twist 243 Winchester cartridge please share your experiences.

I'm looking at the Weatherby 307 Range XP rifle pretty hard to replace my 24 year old Accumark ULW 1/10 twist .243 Winchester coyote rifle.
I'm thinking about rebarreling my ULW with a factory take-off in .338-06 A-Square for black bears.

Do the heavy bullets really pay off for connecting on hits beyond 300 yards? I've concentrated on calling and killing coyotes up close. I got really spoiled with using decoy dogs for 10 years.

I've been calling coyotes since 1972 (788 Remington) and always killed them inside 300 yards with my .243 with 75 grain Hornady Spire HPs, 85 grain Sierra HPBT Matchkings and 85 grain Barnes TSXs ULW (during antelope hunts).

After I bought the ULW I shot the Hornady 58 VMax at 3900 with 50.0 W-760 for two decades. Great combo.

What do you long range guys recommend?

Thanks for any replies.

I don't have the fast twist but I have used the 105gr Amax from Hornady out to 500yds on a few coyote. My Ruger has the 1:9.5" twist and the Amax will stabilize in my rifle.

There are a few videos on youtube where guys were taking 1000yd shots on coyote with the Amax and they were dropping them with ease.

I have a 1-8 twist on my .243 and have shot Berger 108BT bullets and currently shooting custom Hottenstein 105gr Barnstormer bullets. I shoot RL23 in mine and run the 105s at 3045-3060fps. I have tried RL26 but it fouled the barrel heavily and caused a lot of carbon build up. I used Winchester brass initially, but some of the primer pockets loosened up after 2-3x reloads. I switched to Lapua brass and have had excellent experience with it. I use Federal 210M primers.

This barrel and load shoots excellent and it has great terminal effects on grounds hogs and I've shot 2 deer with the Hottenstein bullets as well. They tear ground hogs up, so I don't think they would be fur friendly on coyotes if that matters to you. I have ran 66gr Bishop benchrest bullets in this 1-8 barrel and have had decent results with them. So if you have to run 70-87gr bullets for coyotes, I don't think you'll have an issue with the 1-8T.

I have a 6CM with 1:7.5" 24", and shoot the 105 Hyb suppressed @ 3188fps.

Last weekend, I shot two wary coyotes at 585 and 888 while out scouting for pronghorn. They both dumped at the shots. I have shot coyotes with that combo out to 921, and as close as about 50. And prairie dogs from 30 to 600+.

Works well on pronghorn and deer also.

I put a 7.5twt on my 240 mark V, I have been shooting the 110A-tips. 1" group at 300yds, 5 shot groups. I'm glad I did it.
I have a 243win model 307 on order, just waiting for it to come in.

I was told today by Brenna @ Weatherby that the 307s are shipping to distributors now.
Looking forward to getting mine.

I got RPR with Krieger barrel and it shoots .300 inch groups all day

2x 243AI
1:7.5 for my 108-115gr bullets
1:9 for my 87-100gr bullets
you can comfortably go with the 1:9 and easily shoot 400yds and in.
