If anyone has any information on shooting heavy bullets in a 1 in 7 1/2 inch twist 243 Winchester cartridge please share your experiences.
I'm looking at the Weatherby 307 Range XP rifle pretty hard to replace my 24 year old Accumark ULW 1/10 twist .243 Winchester coyote rifle.
I'm thinking about rebarreling my ULW with a factory take-off in .338-06 A-Square for black bears.
Do the heavy bullets really pay off for connecting on hits beyond 300 yards? I've concentrated on calling and killing coyotes up close. I got really spoiled with using decoy dogs for 10 years.
I've been calling coyotes since 1972 (788 Remington) and always killed them inside 300 yards with my .243 with 75 grain Hornady Spire HPs, 85 grain Sierra HPBT Matchkings and 85 grain Barnes TSXs ULW (during antelope hunts).
After I bought the ULW I shot the Hornady 58 VMax at 3900 with 50.0 W-760 for two decades. Great combo.
What do you long range guys recommend?
Thanks for any replies.
