The 10 inch Kenetrek Mountain Extreme 400 is the best selling of the Kenetrek line according to Jim Winjum, co-founder of Kenetrek Boots. When I met with Jim for 3 hours he showed me a boot construction cut-away to see what makes the Kenetrek Mountain Extreme better than any other boot out there. The one-piece leather construction around the front face of the boot feels really good and smooth underneath. The Mountain Extreme's one piece vamp of 2.8 mm top grain leather on top of stiff nylon midsoles with high traction K-Talon outsoles will perform well under 80 pound loads coming out with a trophy on your back. And the high level of support will still be there years later. -Len Backus-

With a Windtex membrane, the Kenetrek Mountain Extreme boot is waterproof and breathable. The 400 grams of Thinsulate makes for a warm and dry day. The weight is only 4.2 pounds and they come in sizes: Mens whole & half size's narrow (8-12,13,14,15,16) medium (7-12,13,14,15,16) and (8-12,13) wide widths. Made in Italy.

These are some great boots. I bought them in anticipation of a trip to Wyoming just after New Year. The weather was BRUTAL: -26F, with a light breeze. My eyes watered and my eyelashes froze, but my feet were warm. Did I mention 2-3 feet of snow on the ground? The boots kept my feet warm with one pair of heavy socks. They were comfortable right out of the box, no break-in. Even when I went inside, my feet were not too warm. Quite simply, they are worth the money
Why buy from LRHS and not the other big time on-line retailer? At LRHS, I can call and talk to Any who has hunted the mountain west in these boots. He advised buy my regular size and he was right. LRHS knew my timing was tight on delivery; they got it done and followed up by phone to make sure. All that for a slightly better price, plus free socks and shipping.
Excellent boots. Very comfortable out of the box and great ankle support. Just bite the bullet and don't look back. You will not regret it.
Several outfitters with whom I had gone mountain hunting (New Zealand as well as North America) had recommended these boots for comfort, support and durability. I have not yet had them long enough to attest to the durability but they excel at comfort and support. Mine required no extensive break-in process, and though I would not recommend doing so, I imagine they could be taken right out of the box and worn immediately up the first mountain. Not cheap, but quality rarely is. And these are quality boots.
Lets start off by saying I have really bad feet. I have tried custom orthodics, boots of about every kind, home remedies, ect... I recently made a career change to get off of my feet due to discomfort. These boots are the only boots I have been able to wear. I bought the 400 gram for an elk hunting trip last summer. While breaking them in, I couldn't believe how much support they had. I bought a non-insulated set to wear as my everyday boots. Awesome. The non insulated set is a little warm for everyday use, but much better than sore feet. I am going to try a pair of desert guides as my next everyday set.
