6.5 prc h4831sc Barnes 127 LRX

H4831sc & Barnes 127LRX @ 3,160fps, Fed Gold 215m primer in once fired Hornaday brass, Sub .6 moa 10 shot groups. Just keep your Impact velocity above 2000 fps for harvesting animals.
I run that set up in my 22 inch 6.5 PRC and it shoots awesome and very accurate.
I have been using this for a while and taking many extremely Large wild boars and Blacktail deer.
How many's grs are you using for REFERENCE ? My 65 PRC is a 24 " and I think a 127 should go 3200 fps 👍
I don't think H4831is gonna get me there 🤷‍♂️

You're closer than you think -- incremental charges over a chronograph at 100 is a ladder, no pictures required to start. Where it pays off is lining up each charge's velocity with the group it actually printed: the charge you want is where the speed stops climbing much (the flat spot) AND the group stays tight. One or the other alone will lie to you -- it's the overlap that picks your best load. Photograph each group so you can measure it instead of eyeballing, and jot the speed next to it.

Full disclosure -- I built a Mac/Windows app called Loadscope that does exactly this (drop in your chronograph file + target photos, it scores the charges and flags the flat spot), so I'm biased. But even by hand the method's the same. At ~2800 with the 127 LRX you're in a sensible window; get a couple more charges on paper with speeds beside them and the winner usually stands out.
 
Things are going to continue changing until he's got fully fire formed brass, unless he's going to use virgin brass only which he isn't. Now the work begins as at least he's got 1 firing on his brass.
Not necessarily… I've been around many rifles that showed no difference in velocity or ES/SD between virgin brass and fired brass, particularly when using quality brass.
 
Have not seen that, but I don't do load development with brand new brass. I've done basic load development and taken notes but things have always changed for the better with fire formed brass. IME

So…. If you've got a good gun with 1000+ rounds on it, and you need new brass for that gun…. you'll pound another 100-200 rounds through it to get "fired brass"?

This is one of the reasons I'm looking for a load that shoots the same (or very close) with new brass as it does with fired brass. Heck, I'll give up some "accuracy" for a greater level of consistency across the board.

No, but it depends on the rifle and cartridge. I probably wouldn't fire form 100 pieces. I'd probably do 40 and call it good. Regardless, I'm not a competitive shooter so most of my shooting and load development is for hunting only. This is a topic for another thread and I don't want to derail the OPs thread. I'll do me and you do you.
 
i was watching someone test factory ammo in 6.5 prc and even in a 24" barrel factory was getting around 2850 fps (give or take depending on the ammo). I'm getting that out of 20". Seems like I should be pretty happy with that.

As for ladder test, I only saw two speed flat spots, and I chose the higher one of the two. Would I fiddle around with small increments within that to see if I get more accuracy? I'm thinking I should wait to see if resized brass ends up being notably more consistent.
