I recently had a chance to compare my 15-year-old 10x32 Companion CL's and my 10x42 EL Rangefinder's to my brother in laws brand new Pure 10x32's.
After about 1 hour looking through all three, here is my "regular guy's" observations and thoughts:
I have never looked through or handled a more ergonomic and beautiful pair of binos. As far as what you see through them, they are perfect. Everything was sharp and crystal clear and colors are bright and vivid. Really incredible!
The Companions really surprised me. The image definitely isn't as sharp as the Pure, and colors aren't as vivid and bright....but it is pretty Dam close. In the hand, they don't feel as refined, and don't line up with your eyes as perfectly as the Pure. They FEEL "cheaper." Like holding a Purdey shotgun, then putting it down and picking up a Remington 870. But both will kill birds equally
The 10x32 EL's are somewhere in between. I didn't see much of a difference between the EL and the Pure.
I would say that the colors are a bit brighter in the Pure's. The EL Rangefinders feel like a brick compared to the Pure's
Again, these are my observations by simply through them, side by side.
So, my thoughts/question to you all is this: "Are the Pure's worth it?" New Pure's are @ $3,000 new, yet a nice pair of used CL's are only $6-800. Are the Pure's worth 3X the value of the CL's?
If I had an extra 3G's I would DEFINITELY buy the Pure's, but honestly, I don't think that the difference I saw between them and the Companions are worth and extra $2,000+
They aren't $2,000 "better" if that makes sense.
I thought that there would have been an obvious-significant difference but there wasn't....to me anyway
What are your thoughts?
