While that's the ideal, Canada strictly regulates firearm use. Some campgrounds explicitly ban them. To carry a long gun for wildlife defense, you must check provincial hunting regulations.That would be spooky. I always carry lead bear spray.
Handguns (pistols and revolvers) are a completely different story. The Canadian federal government, in its infinite wisdom, classifies them as "restricted," legally limiting their presence to your home, an approved range, a gunsmith, and the direct transport between those locations.
