Looking to built a precision rifle

I shoot a number of rifles that fit your build.

223/55 gr, 22-250/68 Match, 22 Creedmore/75 Match and 6 CM/100 SGK. They have all killed prairie dogs at 400 yds+, so accuracy for range time is easily there within 300 yds.
If I were to pick one it would be the 22 CM in a fast twist barrel. Mine has great accuracy and speed at 3390 with the 75 gr match bullet.

223 with a fast twist would be the close second for your purposes. Shoot a 65 gr bullet and low recoil and cost to load.

The comment about bolt face size in the action is very valid as far as availability and resale. 223 limits your future options a lot.

I have a 6.5 Grendel in an AR and it never leaves the safe!!!

Contact Robert at Alamo Precision Rifles. He built this 6br for me and I can't tell you how happy I am with it. Great company.

There are so many good 6mm cartridges that will easily do everything you want like 243 win 6mm Remington etc but they're old aren't modern or cool but they are very accurate, easy to shoot and effective

Do you reload - that is the key question.
Do not reload = 223, 6GT, 65Creedmoor
Do reload = 6BR, 6BRA, 6Dasher, 22BR, 22BRA, 22Dasher - any of these will work - I am a 6 Dasher guy

Honestly, 22LR in a PRS22 style rig works to 300 yards!

Can you see the splash on steel at 300 yds without a spotter?
Yes. If you have good.glass and the correct targets. At 400 and 500 (yes, we did that), you need to run LightReact or T1000s on the plates. I ran rimfire precision rifle match series for several years so I learned a lot about the logistics of that niche.

That said, get a centerfire. I'm solidly in the 223 or straight 6br camp for OPs use case.

No love for the 6mmPPC anymore??
Great round. I'd prefer it to a 6arc, though they can.both do similar things. The arc has eclipsed it for most as there's ready to go ammo, brass, etc and almost every ppc reamer is neck turn required (I turn case necks but I completely understand those who refuse).

Yes I reload, I will put that in the OP if I can?? I reload for wildcat cartridges as well.

I built my latest precision short action rifle around a 6.5x47, using my chosen Lapua Scenar L bullet, it is more accurate than anything else I have built, off a bench, and awesome off bipod and bags prone.
Couldn't be happier with the outcome.

I just don't see all the fanfare around the 6mm. At my club, these don't do nearly as well as the 6.5mm's and 7mm's at our 600 metre line.

Cheers.
