.308 muzzle velocity, with 20 inch tactical barrel?

Doctor, the Superformace stuff, is badass. I definitely agree.
I was even considering loading a Barnes 130, to about 2900. That bullet is extremely deadly, and they work real good, really fast.

7stw, mine shoots .5 Moa at 100 yrds all day factory gun with handloads and the 10x swfa mil dot scope. I shoot seer with it out to 600 and have great results with the 168 gr amax. I tried some other Bullets but that gun loves the 168 the best. It is my go to for blinds and tree stands with mid range shots. Added this tripod set up for pop up blinds

Here is a picture of the rig that I spoke about earlier. I think that it is perfect for stand hunting. Again 308 20" 1:10 twist, threaded (soon to wear a silencerco hybrid supressor).

I'm using a Gunsite scout rifle with an 18" barrel. With commercial ammo and 165 gr. Nosler AccuBond I get 2570 at the muzzle. I shot a caribou bull at 192 yds with complete penetration and the caribou dropped right there

You may be locked onto 308 and that's cool, but last year I went looking for a short rifle to shoot out of a deer stand and I' happy happy with this Christensen Evoke. It has the 16.5" barrel, cost under $900 and a 175 gr Fusion Tipped crono's at 2925 FPS.
And it's a shooter.
I used this at Outpost Range to qualify for shooting access to their 600 yard range.

I think that the 308win was designed perfectly for the 165/168's w/20" barrel in mind. Those with that length should/could be in the 2600-2650 range depending in powder used. Highest velocity will come from n540, but unsure about accuracy! 150/155 would be my next choice in that length.

My AR 10 with a 20" barrel and 168 Amax runs 2630 fps. I've killed a few deer with it at 500 yards and it has worked very well.
It groups around 3" at 600 yards. 3 shot groups.

I hunt a 308 with 18" barrel that's suppressed. I killed a deer last year at 597 yards using 168 Barnes. Bullet barely started to expand so that is too far.
 
Personally I'd be more concerned about how I was scoping it than I would be about the 100- 150 fps one could lose.
 
Oh and by the way, I have a 700 LTR, 20" in 308. It can way out shoot my sorry self for a long darn ways
 
I use my Remington LTR, 20" 1/10barrel. A few years ago changed to Magpul 700 Hunter shortened overall length plus detachable magazine. Better for in shooting house. I'm shooting 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip factory ammo, I've killed deer out to 514 yards. No problem with terminal performance.
