28 Nosler 160 LRX Help

Is anyone loading the 160 LRX in the 28 Nosler? I did a pressure and OCW ladders with N560. It settled in nicely at 81.5 grains running 3360 fps. However, I am having problems finding the right seating depth. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Where did you start?
Barnes recommends .050 and in, in .025 increments. I have followed this with success in most of my rifles never went more than 0.125.

This one is an odd ball because I didn't see any load data for the 160 LRX. There was load data for the 168 LRX, but there are huge differences between those bullets.
 
I'd pick a point, say .080 off or some number. Shoot it. 50 off, whatever.
Load 3-4-5 of those. Whatever you have confidence in.

Next I'd load 3-4-5 of 10-15 thou longer or shorter. If it gets worse, go the other way from your first seating change. If it gets better, move another 10-15 in the same direction.
Fine tune from there down to .005 increments.

If your barrel and bullet agree, you'll find it pretty quick. I use 3 shot groups to find what is desirable then maybe shoot 5-shot groups to verify. Usually the trend is easy to recognize and follow.

Watch N560 on days with significantly different temps. It can be volatile, depending on how warm the loads are, starting out. But man it can print some groups with velocity!
 
I have loaded them in 7SS, 7SAUM, and 7PRC a few times.

I started charge weight testing at .050" off like Barnes recommends for every other one of their bullets in the 7PRC. The SS and SAUM I started at max mag length, as they wouldn't reach the lands at mag length in a SA.

Found the best charge, then went both deeper and further out in .020" increments. .010", .030" l, .070", .090", and .110" off for the 7PRC.

The 7SS and 7SAUM, I never worried about my initial jump to lands, as they had to fit in the mag. So for those, I went in .010" increments deeper until I found the best seating depth.

They all ended up shooting very well, and the guys that shoot them have killed a ton of game on 4 continents with them.

My suggestion is try them as long as possible, and work back in .020" increments until you find the load.
 
As Barnes recommends, I have always started at .050" off and adjusted from there, not always further away either. My custom 25-06 likes the 101g LRX at .015" off.

To date, I have only loaded the 168g LRX in my 7STW for testing, it likes them at .050" off, but, I have not gone shorter than .080" off due to powder crowding.

I would follow what @lancetkenyon has tried.

Before I learned of the .050 recommendation, I loaded a 110 TTSX in my 270 wsm. Large groups and flyers. Called Barnes. The said hard copper gives erratic pressure spikes when seated close to lands. Seated to .050 5/8". .70 3/8".
 
I think I finally cracked the nut with this load. I measured the overall length to the lands and it was a whopping 3.8830". So I loaded bullets to 3.830, 3.780, 3.725, 3.675, and 3.625. The 3.725" load is .158" off the lands and it shot sub-MOA. I got an average of 3290 fps, SD of 4.6, and ES of 9.9 with 82.6 grains of Retumbo and CCI34 primers.

I usually do my seating depth increments in .010/.015, but the bottom line is you got where you needed to be. Hope it kills lots of game for you.
