Anyone able to get any 7mm Cartridge to 3300/160 or 3200/175gr?

"With the 160-175" it seems these Big 7's are just not that much faster than a 26" 7mm RM are they? I mean if one is a "normal hunting range" hunter, shots usually under 350yd, are they? Most elk killed around here are 200yds and way under, often less than 100yds. Any magnum is "usually" a bit heavier and slower to bring into use at those ranges, especially for fast shots, I know these big guns are fascinating, and the right tool for "way out there". I always have the use of my Marine SIL's Mod 700 300 RUM/200 NAB and 6.5x20 Huskemaw scope, 26" barrel, brake, Shilen trigger and a Boyds Laminate stock I had slimmed/trimmed down and checkered. I gave him the bare rifle as a "welcome home" from his second tour in Iraq, 2006. )I am a great father in Law!) ha He put the Huskemaw on it. He later used that rifle with my handloads for a bit over 440 yds pn a cow. BUT, he and his friend had to wade through knee deep snow and 400yds of Oakbrush to get to her! Oh no sir, not me! ha I have had the pleasure of setting up, shooting 300s, 300 RUMS, all kinds of 7 Mags, and a 338wms and one 340 WM. One of the best mountain elk rifles I had was the Rem 700 BDL SS in 375 H&H, factory irons. Remember those? Remington used a lighter barrel contour and with a 2.5x8 was a joy to hunt with! I gave that rifle to a young man for his first trip to Africa. ) I called him a Sissy for having a brake put on it, ha)
We routinely make shots well past that. Whitetail out to 750, elk at 1000, and the 28 Nosler excels at those distances. I didn't reveal it in my first post, but 3300 fps is doable in my rifle with the 195's, but it shoots ragged holes at 2950, and hitting targets at distance is really quite easy. I don't shoot at game in much wind. Daylight shots are the norm for us at deer and elk. Middle of the day we're generally among them. We've spent our time scouting and as a rule we're looking at game at first light. Where we hunt wind is generally good then. My last Kansas deer it was probably blowing close to forty, but he was close, bang flop. He never knew what hit him.

I am a Believer that velocity also helps Wind Drift even for lower BC bullets, so any extra speed makes sense to me. My last 7mm RUM with the 140 TTSX was that way, out to 700yds anyhow. I was shooting it before a cow hunt, getting it zeroed to go along with the Hash Marks in my old Burris 3x9 w/ Ballistic Plex. I was shooting off improvised rests out in desert. I could keep them in the 8" Shoot n See target out to 600 easily enough. But it was close enough for Hail Mary's at 700 (say one was wounded) all I did for the wind was hold on to the windward edge of the "kill area". Better loads, better scope, better position and all would have tightened that up at all ranges, and further out, but for me, and my skill set I was happy. BTW, I did get to take a sight picture on a group of 5 cows at exactly 620 yds (Leica RF) but they were laying right on the property line, ha. Bummer.

A question for you 7mm RUM guys? What powders do you use for the 140gr weights? At the time I had mine, my only powder was IMR 7828 and the rifle liked it around 84gr. I clocked it real close to 3400. Would that 7828 still be a good powder for the 160? I can't wrap my head around using any 180-195 that isn't bonded or Partitioned some way, as my shots are more close. I haven't tried the 170+ Hammers, they would be neat. But what's the best powder and can one even find it? Thanks guys!

K.e.c hit the 7 rum list for middle weights, these days especially it's whatever of those comes up.... bought an immense amount of retumbo before the wu flu and its almost gone. Gonna hurt to find a restock....

That's cool, I was just curious. I'm thinking of trying some H Hybrid 100V in my 300 WSM/155 Scenars. We shall see if I can round some up, ha, it's tough for sure. I'm waiting on its return from the Smith now.

N570, 26" barrel.
Yeah, that's wild. who's the barrel manufacturer? I'm getting my numbers out of a 26" barrel using Retumbo and ADG brass, not sure if that makes a difference. I think I'm just over 79gr, but I'd have to look at my notes to be sure.

It's a proof carbon barrel. He's using ADG brass also. I'd have to check the notes to see what the charge weight is

My last 7mm was the 26" 7mm Rem Mag, I used R26 for 3100/160 and R33 for 3000/175 (both Sierra SBT Gamekings) This was with accuracy, I could go a tad faster but it fell apart. I used 7828/140 TTSX in the RUM for close to 3350, and I could make good hits out to 600 (on targets) using a BP Reticle 3x9, but I really wanted that 3300/160! I want to add that all my rifles are "sporter weight", and I don't dial, but I do like to shoot through elk at any angle "if possible", ha.
Rem 7 ultra 140 ab, imr 7828, 3400 1 inch group at 250 yd.
