Having a 6mm Creedmoor built and will be using a Proof 20in 9tw to shoot the Nosler 70gr Ballistic Tips. I know most Creedmoor shooters use the 105-108's but this build is more of a shorty, medium range, coyote gun build.

Seems H4350 is a top choice but there are a few using RL16 as well and it sounds like RL16 tends to give a little velocity boost over H4350. There's also the new Winchester StaBall 6.5 powder that recently came out but being such a new powder, there isn't many using it yet.

Sooooo, does anyone have any suggestions on a powder for a 6 CM shooting 70 grainers???

Dont know for sure about the 70 grain bullets but have 2 friends shooting h483 1 and is wor king better than 4350. David

Also, which brass, small primer brass or large primer brass?

I've always used Lapua brass for everything except one rifle, but Lapua only makes small primer brass for the 6CM. What is everyone's thoughts on which brass to use???

One friend is using starline watched him shoot a 2 inch group at 700 yards the other day with 115 berger and a off the shelf savage tactical. David

Have not spent much time with mine yet, but it shoots great so far out to 1000. I bought Alpha LG primer brass and started with h4350. Easy 2-3" groups at 700. Need to spend some time experimenting. May try some 4831

For the lightweight bullets I would look at Varget /IMR4166/ ARComp burn speed powders. Less muzzle blast and recoil will be less and velocity should be close to the slower burner stuff.

I would suggest at least a 1:8" if you haven't purchased the barrel yet....you will learn to love the rifle, and want to use it on more than coyotes. But, coyotes HATE the 105 Hybrid.

Lapua SRP 6cm brass
Fed GM205M
42.0gr H4350
105 Hybrid
3101fps from a 24" 1:7.5"
Shot it out to 1500 so far. Crazy accurate. .2MOA @ 200, .3MOA out to 1000. 1181, 1250, 1500 I never measured the groups, but all hit center of 8" steel easily on 1st round hits. I would bet jackrabbits would not survive, probably not even prairie dogs.

I've worked up a load for my 6 CM for coyotes using the 55 gr. Nosler BT. It's chronographing 4100 fps with a single digit Standard Deviation. After trying several powders I'm using H414 powder. Not sure if it will work as well for the 70 gr. bullets, but it would be worth a try. Let us know how it goes, I'll probably try a 70 grain in the future

I briefly considered going with a faster twist but my 6CM is pretty much going to be a purpose build and I just don't see myself ever shooting anything heavier than, maybe, some 95's, but most likely all it'll see is the 70gr BT's, that is unless can't make them shoot but generally Nosler BT's always shoot pretty well.

Just speculating, but from a 20in 6CM I'm thinking they'll launch at around 3450 +/-with RL16 but that's just a guesstimate, only time will tell.

Mr UPS dropped off my new Proof barrel yesterday so everything will be headed to the gunsmiths later this week.

What twist barrel with those 55g bullets?
