7 Rem Mag or 28 Nosler

A vote for picking one bullet, developing a load and then using it to hunt. With two 26Ns and three 28Ns under my belt, these two rounds are not suited for multi-load/bullet weight development. I've found the best way to develop a load is to do it when it's cold and shoot one, let it cool, shoot another, let it cool...... Your barrel will last longer than just pumping three to five rounds through it in a rush fashion. This goes for the 7RM too. The 28N is easy to tune up to the 180s. General consensus on the 190 class of bullets is they aren't the ideal bullet weight for this cartridge. I've found it loves the flat shooting 168 Bergers HVLDs.

I've shot 7RM for a long time, and l oved the 160 Accubond, it was my go-to for a long time, good/solid performance on game, but never "wowed" me. I've been using the 28N for a couple years now and love it. In the 28N, the 180 Hybrids will do 3,150-3,200 without trying hard in a 26" barrel, and primer pockets stay tight for 5-6+ loadings, and they've been fantastic on game (sheep, deer, elk). Same bullet/load, ringing steel out to 1,100 yards, lotsa fun! Retumbo and 8133 have worked well for me; couldn't quite get the same velocity with H1000; have not played with the VV powders yet. Retumbo turns in slightly better ES/SD than 8133, but both are good, use what's available.

Since several of you have mentioned the 195 EOL, Im thinking of building a 28 to shoot the 195 berger. What have you found to be the optimal twist rate for this bullet? Berger recommends 1:8.3 or faster. I was thinking 1:8 but wanted to see if there was logic to go to 1:7.5 or 1:7?

Following the steps of known performers isn't a bad idea. Ryan pierce and Alex wheeler seem to use 195s and r33 or 570. Can't go wrong with a #5 contour and 1:8 twist

OP, there is no right answer just a personal preference. I will put it this way without bias:
Which of these do you prefer?] a lot of good replies thus far, but this... well this is the most logical to me lol!!! thanks for that bud, I needed it today :)

I'm thinking more 30-06 AI, 300 WSM, or 300 WM. Leaning more towards 300 WM with 215gr Berger.

I posted this here for the simple fact of I'm looking for opinions from a reloader's point of view. I know that not many options are out there for factory ammo in the 28, so that gives an edge towards the 7RM for me. From what I read though, the 28 Nosler is a hot rod or can be! I like speed as well as accuracy and looking to invest in one of the two as a means to hunt Mule Deer and Elk. Any comments would be appreciated... thanks

I simply went with the 28 Nosler because I purchased a Nosler Mountain Carbon. I already load for 7mm calibers thus the 28 instead of the others. This will be used for Elk hunting.
