300prc

Look if you want to be right then fine you're right. I already covered that. I've had chambers cut with the exact SAME reamer that had .010 throat difference it just proves my point. I have measured the throat in multiple different chambers cut with known SAAMI reamers with variations of .040 off the top of my head.im confident if I go through my notes I'll find larger. These were not custom specd. It doesn't change the fact that a saami reamer was used.

it is possible that I was lied to /mislead by the individuals I spoke with on the phone. But the companies list told me they use saami reamers. It's obvious they are not following saami entirely or we would have the barrel length options. The point is none of those companies are purposely adding freebore to cartridges in the SAAMI catalog according to them.

I recently built a 300prc on a savage flat back long action and used an accustock. If you are going to use 212 eldx factory ammo it will fit in a savage long action magazine, particularly a dbm. In this case I ordered a CDI kit with the 338 CIP mag. In the end that was not needed for factory ammo in the 212. If you loaded heavier and to the lands then yes, a 338 CIP length mag is needed. This rifle, with that pig of a scope is 11lbs. You could easily shave 2 lbs without the cheek rest, the metal mag, and pig of scope.

Well gents its getting a bit confusing to me.
It would be simple if Savage would make a Storm in 300prc and LH.
I like BrentM s idea but think it maybe a bit costly, also the question would be the action, would one of the LH storm actions do ?
Meaning what is a long action and whats not.
Spend 1/2 hr on line trying to find out.
Maybe the answer is a 30.06 with heavy bullets.
I like it to be a LH fairly light, shoot a lot walk the dog rifle.
I actually heard that Savage has a sorta custom shop /service ???

The Savage DBM and internal mags length will limit the PRC PERIOD. Savage does make some setups that take AICS style mags and they would probably work. A SAAMI throated 30 Nosler would most likely fit within the Savage mag boxes with bullets seated at the lands and will outperform the 300 PRC anyway. It is hard to see what you are wanting to accomplish in your original post. What are your goals? Budget? Will you be reloading?

110 is a long action. If I were going to buy the storm and rebarrel to the 300 i'd target the 110 LH 7 magnum. I believe Saami on the 300 is 2.775 to 2.955. The 212's did fit in my 6.5-284 dbm mag before I messed with the whole thing. I figured the guy I built the rifle for would shoot 225 plus or even reload so I went with CDI 338 CIP bottom metal. If I built that rifle right now, I would just do a standard 300wm aics mag for him. I doubt he'll ever reload or shoot the heavier bullets.

If you buy the CDI metal they will inlet your stock free. So the cost of the metal, plus mag, plus the stock of your choice. I did have the accustock inletted for the CDI metal and it works fine. I have no heartbreak with the accustock and have had several rifles shoot very well with them.

I'm not sure it matters in this conversation but be careful because savage went old school and they are back to 110 being the name for all hunting rifles short and long action.

It doesn't matter if you purchase a long action style cartridge like the 7mm mag. In that case it will be a 110 long action. Savage does some stupid sheet and this is one of them. Should have left it alone so we all know what is what.

Good morning 24
Yes I may have bin a bit confusing.
My idea is a LH light to fairly light rifle.
Basically the Storm would do
We have bears wandering through town.
So it has to have some power.
That's why I was wondering about the 300pcr not realizing it's a magnum kinde cartridge.
I don't want to go full blown custom and a Storm runs around $1200 Canadian, so yes I am not looking for a 2k or more rifle .
I can reload.
Maybe the way to go is buy one in 7RM (2th one, have Tikka varmint ) put a brake on it see what it does and or rebarrel to 30 Nosler or 300 later.
Being Savage I can do that myself .
Thanks Martin
