I know the bullet needs a 9" or less twist but I've got a box of them I want to try in my 10" twist 26" Brux barrel. My mag box is 3.020 so the bullets would be seated in a ways. Can I hear some thoughts on this. Who's tired them this way and what results, powder and load data. If I hear it's not worth the trouble I'll give them away to someone for shipping/handling

it would take
3100 fps at 6,000' elevation gets them marginal stability according to berger. Dont think the wsm can hit that with a loss of capacity.

I've not tried them in mine but in your Brux bbl I'd try them for Sure ,great choice of bbl & length by the way ;), Bigngreen is a Gunsmith here send him a pm , Cheers !

You will be spinning your wheels. The 170s may hit the paper straight but terminal performance will be diminished. I would suggest you follow Berger recommendations.
Which is 1/8 twist for the 170s. I have one that bigngreen built who is the authority on anything 270. It is amazing with its 1/8 twist Rock Creek Barrel and 3.125 magazine.
My COAL is 3.120 with base of the boattail at the shoulder/neck juncture at .020 off the lands. Hope that helps.

They're an excellent hunting bullet out of an 8 twist bbl also. I don't have a wsm but my 270 Sherman is a laser with them at 3100. I think a wsm throated properly will probably equal it with the same bbl length and a decent length magazine. Probably wasting time out of a 10 twist with them though. If you want to shoot it a while longer with that barrel, I've heard good things about the 145 eld-x.

You need a 1-8 or faster for the 170s. It's not worth the going with this bullet, go with 150s and see how they do. Should be able to get the 150s to 3150+ with reloder 26.

I build a lot of 270 WSM's set up for the 165/175 Matrix VLD's and I have a couple rifles in now that I have to do full load development with the 170 Berger as well so I'll get some data for them as well. The 270 WSM is my personal favorite with the 165 Matrix, killed a pile of elk 85-900+ yards with this combination and always been very pleased!
