Bighorn action and proof prefits.

Hey guys, I'm considering putting together a Bighorn SR3 with A proof barrel. I see that Proof now offers Bighorn prefits now and not just savage prefits. Are these shouldered prefits? and do you still need a barrel nut with these bighorn prefits? Thanks in advance for any info! I think it would be pretty awesome to get a shouldered prefit proof with a bighorn action and throw it in a manners stock with a mini chassis for quick easy assembly.

Shouldered, no nut. I built a pair on manners EH6A's minichassis. One BDL/wyatts, one genII dbm

oh wow nice! How do they shoot? Also you are able to do the Wyatts with the manners BDL mini chassis? Is there any negative effects if you decided to shoot factory ammo out of a wyatts extended? I am looking at doing a 300 wm and will want to eventually shoot heavier longer bullets but will be using factory at first. Any recommedations?

Yes. The wyatts box IS in the bdl 6.5 PRC. The action needs the wyatts cut, tho.... Both of mine are SA's.

What profile? Didn't realize the eh6 would fit a proof?

Sendero light contours in both. barrel vise and action wrench is all you need.

How did you adjust headspace?

The chambers are headspaced off the shoulder. Just screw 'em in, and snug them up to torque.

Are you seeing good accuracy with the chassis's compared to having them bedded?

I don't see a Bighorn proof profit on the proof webpage. Is this a new product from proof or a barrel shouldered as a prefit from someone such as PVA? Just curious, but I would not hesitate either way on a proof. I have a savage prefit on my TL3 that was shooting around 1/4 Moa during shots 10-18 on break-in the other day. This is before I have even had a chance to bed the action! I wish I had of went shouldered, but I bought it before these companies advertised shouldered prefits much. The way it shoots now, I wouldn't trade it for the world! All this was done shooting Berger factory ammo from MidwayUSA. It was the 215 hybrid target load. I've never seen factory ammo so accurate. Each barrel likes something different, but this is excellent in mine. One thing to think about when buying a prefit. Try to find out what type of bullet it is reamed for. When I talked to a tech guy at proof, I want to say that he said the 300wm savage prefits were reamed for a Berger 210 or a Tacmatch reamer one. (It's been a while back, so please forgive if I'm mis-remembering) Either way, he said they tested the savage prefits on a TL3 at the time. I wanted to shoot the heavies for 300wm, so I sprung for it. To seat to the lands, it has to be at least a 210 vid or higher in a Berger. I haven't looked at others yet. Just be aware of the reamer and magazine space accordingly. I would definitely recommend having enough magazine space to get past the lands for eventual throat erosion. I went with the HS Precision DBM, but I like the Wyatt's if you get the Wyatt's cut for the action. I ordered my Tl3 before I realized I needed a Wyatt's cut. Either way, I think proof is top notch now. Good luck with the build!
