The old 25-06 Remington and 270 Winchester shot flatter than 6.5 CM

It is becoming more and more popular due to its ballistics and more importantly, the military recently adopting it as a round. It's not going away anytime soon.

"It's not going away anytime soon." Yup and neither has the Ackley Improves, the .270 Winchester, the .270 WSM, the 7mm ReMag, the .308 Winchester, the 30-06, the 338-06s, the .338WinMag, the .358 Winchester, and the 35 Whelens to name only but a few! Not one of these cartridges/calibers are the shoot all, the kill all, hunt and shoot anything DRT hunt dinosaurs with. And.....each one has a place in the shooting and the hunting world, there's not one that stands totally on its own in the shooting community! The government also adopted the .38 Special, the .45 ACP, the 9mm Luger, the .223, the .308 and the 30-06 to name a few, that does not make it the only cartridge in the world to hunt with and to shoot accurately with. I think that what some of the readers are trying to say is that we are not disputing that the CM is a good caliber, what we are saying is that it is not always the best cartridge/caliber for "everything" that is already out there. And.....it never will be!:rolleyes: There are too many calibers that shoot as close to, as well as, or better than the CM's capabilities.

Totally agree...except about the perfect cartridge not existing. It's a 30-06 :D

He's definitely not a moron, just what works for him isn't very popular at the moment. Give it a few years and people will be tried of sending 6.5 creedmoor mortars at big game.
In life, the roads we SHOULD take are rarely ever considered the popular or cool route. Remember, the road to Heaven is thin and narrow, and the road to hell is a packed highway.

I have read most of the posts here and one thing still confuses me. How on earth can the CM have better ballistics then other 6.5's shooting the same bullet at the same speed. To me this just seems impossible.
One more thing why did Spoomer not test a 120gr bullets in the 25-06 and the 6.5CM. In that situation both bullets dtart out at roughly the same speed have closers bc's and similar me.

Relax and have a beer or two, weed out the BS, and life will just be a dandy. :D

Speaking of BS, I was at a local gun store earlier this week admiring a WBTY rifle on the counter. An old timer (mid-70ish) started a conversation about the muzzle brake (radial) that would be great to tame his old .300 WM. He continued to tell me that he shot a nice MT bull elk last year at 800 yards. I congratulated him and I ask what kind of range finder he was using and he pointed at his eyes. I simply smiled, got my entertainment for the day.

Lol I always ask how high they had to hold above.
I had a guy tell me once he shot a mule deer at 600. A herd was walking across a coulee, he held his reticle 6 deer bodies high and shot. Then he says never considered the wind, killed the doe walking behind the buck dead. Lol, probably bs too but made a good story

Stories like that are becoming way more common these days.

I hate fad stuff but got my daughter a 6.5 Creedmore since it was the best round for the recoil in the rifles I bought her, been shooting factory stuff which is everywhere, just started rolling some handloads and working up pressure ladders with different powders and bullets, all I know is man I like this little bugger!!
After years of dropping 70-100 grains of powder into cases it sure is nice to dropping half or less in and enjoying just having fun loading and shooting, not worried if I don't find THE load in one box of bullets I've burned a 10-20% of my barrel life up.
Is the Creedmore unique, not at all, there is a plethora of similar chambering but what has taken it to the top is the fact that it's the most shootable chambering out there aside of maybe a 223, literally every company is chambering multiple configurations of rifles in it, ammo is stocked every where with the widest array of bullets, reloading supplies are everywhere also, everyone is supporting it!
It's turned into the gate way chambering for many shooting events which is awesome and it deserves credit where it's due!

Best part is you have no problem finding brass or loaded ammo since they are not proprietary at this point. You can find everything from Remington Core-Lokt to boutique exotic loaded ammo. Plenty of new and used rifles to chose from as well. No matter who goes out of bussiness someone will always be making brass for these and chambering rifles for these you can not say that about the 6.5CM or the 6.5 PRC.

You do realize every reason you listed above is true about the 6.5 Creedmoor?

Ammo:
- $.50 per rd Remington Core Lokts up through $3+ per round custom ammo from Litz/HSM/ABM/Nosler Custom etc
- Costs less than even widely available 308 when comparing like to like (ie. Fed Gold Medal, Hornady etc.)
- Bullet selection from 100gr varmint bullets up through 140gr+ match and hunting bullets

Rifles:
- Not sure where you are looking but every major rifle maker has multiple offerings (eve Winchester and Remington FFS) in 6.5, usually with multiple styles, lightweight sporters/yout models up through heavy barreled match/tactical rifles... I cant think of a single OEM that offers a 270 or 25-06 in anything other than a sporter to be honest.
- Twist rate optimized for full range of projectiles offered, the 1:10 twist on any factory 270 wont stabilize the VLD 150gr+ bullets out there

Brass:
- Hornady, Lapua, Norma, Remington, Nosler, Winchest (if you shoot their factory ammo), Alpha munitions (small and large primer), Starline (small and large primer)... not really sure what your point is?

Hornady is putting the same efforts into the PRC... reason suggests it will be on this same level within the next 5yrs.

Are either of these rounds good enough to sell or re-barrel your current 270/25-06? No, but if you were buying a new rifle and didnt have a ton of accumulated brass/components/tools, you'd be stupid to not at least consider the newer offerings.

I really like this guy. I don't agree with everything he says.

I like your way of thinking about the 6.5 CM. I'm a retired US Army Sniper and have heard most of the long range hunting story's. Everytime I've challenged one of the long range hunters they can't even hit a 4' X 4' piece of plywood at the range they are supposed to have made a one shot kill from. I use a 26 Nosler for long range deer hunting and seven hundred yards is pushing it with a 143 gr ELDX @ 3300 fps for a clean kill.

Back when I started shooting 1K BR in Pella, Iowa, they had a stock gun class.

Do they still have these shoots? Im up by Waterloo, but would definitely travel to Pella. Letting my wife shop in town while i shoot sounds like a win win
