Just purchased a Seekins Havak pro hunter PH1 in 6.5 PRC, and want to put a Razor HD Gen II 3-18x50 Riflescope on it. Any feedback on this scope? Thanks

Fantastic scope, but IMO it's going to be too heavy for the Havak. I like a well balanced rifle and find that heavy scopes on top of lighter rifles make them top heavy. For Vortex I'd look at the AMG over the Gen II.

Depending on ring selection you're gonna be right at 10lbs and a couple ounces.

For some people that's heavy, for some it's not.

Most of my hunting rifles are about 10 lbs, now. Just hope the new rifle won't be too top heavy with a 3 lbs scope on it. I suppose once I get the rifle and install the scope I will give it a try. I can always sell the scope and try something else if it does not work out.

Definitely going to have a top heavy feel to it, IMO. I'd look at maybe and NXS 3-15, a full pound lighter.

I agree. I had the same scope and it was stupid heavy. Great scope, but not for a hunting rifle, at least not for me. As someone mentioned, look at the AMG.

Lowest power for the amg is 6, I think that would be a little too much for closer shots.

I usually run my hunting scope on 4 power for quick shots and turn it up for the long shots .

Is ffp a must? The VX6HD gives the same magnification range, but over a pound and a half lighter. Nightforce SHV 5-20 is just over a pound lighter and available in ffp.

Those are two to look at for sure. I am really hoping the vortex is going to work out, as I got a pretty good deal on it. I saw that it weighed 3 lbs when I bought it, but was suprised how much it weighed when it came in. Hopefully once on the rifle it won't feel so heavy .

This is going to primarily be a hunting setup, but I want to do some long range practice with it out to 1000 yards.

I have and love the vortex scope you mention. It currently sits atop a rem 700 .243 with 26" bull barrel in a B & C stock. When I havent over done the caffeine it shoots in the upper .1's and low to mid .2's. Got luck on my first reload try with Berger 95's and 42.1 grains of imr4831. The velocity is really slow, at 2775 fps, but I never shoot that one past 400 yds so its fast enough. I'm sure there is a higher node up there but I have others to shoot for hunting or longer targets. Anyway the Vortex works darn well out to at least 400 for me. I also have the NXS, and it's also lighter and a great scope. I would guess the NXS would be better for harder use, but I have nothing other than gut feeling to back that statement up.

Excellent scope with very clear optics. Very heavy for a hunting rifle. I use 2 on different comp rifles, and that's pretty much where they should live. the balance for a nice light rifle will be too top heavy with that monster mounted up.

agree with other posts above; 3 lbs on top of that rifle will probably throw off the balance; too top heavy. I have a vx6hd in seekins rings on mine and IMO the balance is pretty good.... really like the setup. I am thinking a lighter scope might even improve it more.
