Self timed vs semi-permanent brake?

Hey fellas, on you 30cal magnum builds did you opt for self timed brake or semi-permanent with crush washer/contour to match barrel brake?

If so, why?

Ì, for one, like the idea of being able to remove the brake to clean the barrel and not having to deal with crush washer, making sure after install its seamless, etc.

However, I am not a fan of the hex nut to tighten down. It just ruins the clean muzzle contour line to my eyes.

So whats the word?

Either one will work fine, just depends on your idea of what looks good to you

I prefer to use NO crush washer and time the brake in on the lathe by using the shoulder of the barrel tenon to time the brake and then blend the brake to the barrel.

If this is done right, it is not hard to bring it back to the original position. The only place in my opinion for a crush washer is on a AR or other similar rifles that already are threaded and does not have a refined look anyway that the crush washer would take away the clean lines of a truly custom rifle.

Lots of brakes have no hex nut machined into them and removal is as simple as finding or making a Dowel or key that fits (It should fit as close as possible to prevent damage to the port) one of the ports or drilled holes for removal.

As stated, everyone has there likes when it comes to looks. I feel that a tactical rifle looks ok with a hex nut and a crush washer, But a custom bolt action looks best with a timed and blended brake.

Removal for cleaning is an option for the owner.
