and so do hornady sst's..
i have a 300 rum and it likes neither the 180 gr., nab's, even set as close as .10 off, nor 180 gr. hornady sst's...
i have tried different powders, re-25 seems to work the best, tried different oal lengths...

and it will not shoot a nab under a 3.5 x 3.0 inch group.

but, it loves 168 gr. barnes tsx's...

now what's up with all this ???

So its the bullets fault that you can get them to shoot?

Or is it the bullets fault that the gun has a problem with the bullets ?

Shoot the TSX....or send it to me Ill figure it out and sell it back to you!

give us some load data and we might can help... you tied off my Elk yet? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Afternoon SPLATTERMATIC >> That is strange. Been using AccuBonds since they started coming out. From the 110's in the .25-06 to the 140's in the .280 AI to the 200's in the Warbird. Lots in between and am switching over loads to them as more hit the market. Across the board, they've proven extremely easy to find accuracy. Not suprising as I've found this to be true with all the Nosler poly-tipped bullets I've used over the years.

Not sure what's up with your RUM. Sure wouldn't mind working with it first hand just to see what was what, though. >> klallen

i don't have the elk tied up just yet... gimme some time..!!
here's what i have..
a trued remmy 700, factory 300 rum ss barel trued and recrowned.
the recvr has been opened for a wyatt's mag box, 1 piece egw base, opened to 8/40 screws, luppy prw rings, luppy 6 - 18 scope, and trigger breaks at 2 lbs.

i am shooting new remmy brass, just slightly pushed into a resizing die to round the necks, and deburred, with lrm 215 primers, and 99.0 gr's of reloader 25 powder.

no pressure signs and running mid 3300's....

168 gr tsx's are running just a bit over 3400 fps....
the tsx's are set at .20 off and shot a 3/4x1/2 inch group, more testing needed, maybe .025 will get better as longer got worse....

the nab's, i set a 3.690, the longest i could get into the mag, before the wyatt's, and went down to .10 off, single feeding them .....
they just will not group.
same with the sst's....

i have been using x bullets for a long time, and have no need to switch other than the cost of the **** things..
their perfermance on game is beyond reproach... ( and no i do not work for barnes)

here's the gun and work in progress on the mag box alterations.

any suggestions on a starting point for setting the bullets back from the rifling ?
.20 ? .30 ? .40 ? or just start somewhere and burn my barrel out chasing something that may never happen ???

Calm down a bit! The only way you can say that a bullet sucks is if it isn't consistant in it's creation (bullets deformed, not expanding the way they should, BC's different, weights off by lots...), and AB's are fairly consistant. I had problems w/ Ballistic tips and my 30-06, but I know it was just that my rifle didn't like them.

I had fairly good groups with the 200gr Accubond in my Rem LSS 300RUM. My rifle is basically all stock except for the bedding. Although I also had the lugs lapped and the crown recut.

I loaded the Accubonds @ .015" off the rifling using H1000, H870 and RE 25. The RE25 shot consistently at just under 1.5" at 200 yds. The H1000 shot just over thatand the H870 shot just under 2".

All in all, the Accubond shoots just as well as the 190 & 210 SMK's in my rifle. Haven't tried any Barnes TSX bullets yet. Probably won't either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I shoot a 300 RUM with both 180 and 200 AB's and get excellent accuracy using Retumbo. The boys I shoot with are running RL 25 at a max of 95 to 96 with 180's. Load sounds a bit hot. Try backing down to 94 grs. and work up. Food for thought. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

It's been my experience that if NAB won't work, then something is terribly wrong. They work in everything I shoot them in. The problems you are having and the groups you are quoting are way worse than the factory loads I tune for my hunting buddies. I w0uld be interested to see if the barrel is the issue in either bore size or the choke missing at the muzzle.

If all else fails, change the shooter and start all over.

Exactly what was done to true the receiver and barrel? I ask because unless the barrel threads were cut off and refitted, you can not completely accurize the receiver because the receiver threads need to be recut.

Just curious as to what amount of work was actually done to the rifle.

No rifle will shoot every bullet. To think they will is not practical. Even full custom rifles will prefer certain bullets over others.

I really do not see a problem, you have a load that your rifle likes and it is plenty suitable for any game up to elk.

My simple recommendation which is the same I give to my customers, listen to your rifle, feed it what it wants. It is not the Accubonds fault that your rifle does not like them.

Shoot what shoots well.

Uh, where is your front bag or rest? It's not uncommon to have a rifle that will not group off a bi-pod. My 300Wby does the same thing with 200AB's but over the bags it is consitantly below .5's when shot off of bags front and rear. I seat at 3.7" or at about .250" off the rifling for best results. I forgot the actual measurement as I have found they always work best in every gun I shoot them in to just seat for the magazine box.
