Nate Simmons article on backpack hunt gear "list"

After reading Nate Simmons article on his gear list for backpack hunting as a hunting backpacker I have some thoughts.

1. I would have like to see a gear list like those that I would find in the Backpacking Light site, which include a categorized list (pack, shelter, clothing, cooking, sleep system, etc.) with weights for each piece of gear.

2. A "1st day" total pack weight with all consumables including water

3. A sample menu for each meal of the day for say, 3 days.

4. A "wish list" for new gear he would like to have and a "discard list" for gear he has found non-essential.

5. His rifle/scope combo and weight

Personally I would never take a spotting scope or scope/shooting tripod. My 10 X laser rangefinder binoculars are very adequate for spotting game at any distance I'm going to stalk to. The spotting scope and tripod are just way too much weight considering the rifle and butchering gear that's added to a regular backpack gear list.

Butchering gear? You mean a folding knife and a stone?

Butchering gear also includes:
-> elbow length nitride gloves
-> meat bags
-> small bone saw (optional)
-> clean-up gear (hand sanitizer and a few paper towels)
-> small carbide and ceramic "V" shaped blade hones (one unit about 2 inches long)
The two types of hones in one unit are lighter than a stone and work much faster.

Not positive but I think Nate normally bow hunts, so his rifle weight might not be as available.
I gauge bringing a spotter and tripod by each individual hunt more of a as needed type of equipment. I know in some of the high country hunts the weight is tough but the extra miles it could save you are possibly more important.

Butchering gear?....how about a replaceable razor knife...why pack stones....okay...maybe a real knife also for camp duties...and a half roll of paper towels(cleaning and firestarter and maybe toiletries and cleaning cooking utensils)...can also use it as a necksupport while sleeping...
