I'm building a 28 nosler and can't make up my mind on a scope, this is my first custom rifle and the last one for a long time, it will be for hunting and maybe one day competition idk, I've already spent a small fortune on this, so I might as well spend a little more on a scope than I normally would, I thinking maybe nf atacr, vortex razor2, Bushnell xrs 2, maybe even a S&B or Kahles, I've seen through the razor and xrs and like both very well, but don't have any experience with the others, I'm leaning towards the atacr but I'm not set on it yet. Just looking to see what everyone likes I know a Lot of it is personal preference and I may not have asked this question just right but if you could over look that any feed back would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

I normally wouldn't consider an S&B or kahles due to price but the Atacr is right there to so might as well, and weight isn't a factor as it will already be heavier than I'm used to and a few extra oz isn't going to kill me

Those are some fine choices, but if you think you are primarily going to be hunting then why not a NF NXS or a leupold V6. I have both and they both serve me well. Just another opinion. Good luck.

I have thought about the nxs it seems nice,I'm not a Leopold fan tbh, I have the money set aside for the build now and if I go a different route then idk when I would be able to revisit buying a new scope

7x35 atacr was pretty impressive this weekend .
it was on a light 28 nosler and still felt balanced and not heavy at all.
can't go wrong with nf!

I would def go with the Kahles or a March scope. they are very nice and are lighter than the others. I have one on my lighter weight long range hunting setup. I also have 2 S&B PMII on my comp rigs. the Kahles is a very bright scope which helps "see" into darker areas in the woods. Although the vortex is a great scope, I wouldn't even consider it for anything hunting. its just to heavy. The bushnell is a nice scope (ive had one of those too) but it isn't in the same class when it comes to glass as the other high end scopes, but the price is good. honestly, if I was going to go with a bushnell for hunting it would prob be their elite long range hunter. its not as tactical, but the weight is good and offers tactical style turret to dial.

A lot of this will depend on what you consider to be 'long range'. Statistically, most shots taken on game in the U.S. are 300 yards and under. Now, if you're one of the very small percentage who consider themselves to be prepared and precise enough to shoot beyond this range then you need the better scopes available with the higher power range.

I hunt in the 0 to 800 yard range most of the time so I find that 18x is sufficient to make those shot consistently. If you feel handicapped then you could consider going to the 25x. You state that weight in not necessarily a factor, although given the weights of the scopes you mention, they are sincerely heavier than necessary.

I have been using the Swarovski Z5 3.5-18 x 44 BRX on about 75% of the hunting rifle builds. These scope are in the 16 oz. weight range as compared to the others weighing in at 26oz, up to the ATACR at 39oz. I see no reason to carry the extra weight when the quality is comparable with a lighter scope. The price is better also.

Regards.
