Primer backasards?

Some how, a primer flipped on me. Is thher a way to safely get it back out of the brass? Or just chunk it? I'd hate to do that! It's a 300 rum!

I have done that before and just ran it through the die again, slowly. If you have a universal depriming die that would be the best way to go.

Put a drip of oil on it just to be safe and let it soak awhile. Then slowly punch it put with the depriming punch.

I've popped hundreds upon hundreds of live primers out (both correctly seated, and backwards seated) using universal decapping and depriming dies. You just have to be VERY careful when you do it with a live one... You don't want to, nor do you have to, ram it home. Just ease the case up to the die till you feel the pin on the primer, then easily and smoothly apply pressure till it pops out. Then dispose of the unspent primer properly, and get another one to put in it. Don't reuse primers.

Had it happen a few times when I started using a hand primer. I don't have a universal decapping die, so I extended the pin as far as I could, lubed the case and slowly ran through the FL die until the primer popped out. With safety glasses on, obviously!

I run the case into a full length or neck sizer with the decapping pin removed and then screw in the decapping pin until the primer comes out. Never had one go off just go slow.

A single primer goes PFFFFFT!, not boom. You don't want it to go PFFFFFT! into your eyes, but if it goes off in a die, especially one as spacious as a 300RUM, it won't be a boom, of any sort. A primer won't even push the bullet out of any decent size case without powder.

Keep your eyes safe, wear heavy gloves if you are paranoid, and run it through a sizing die. Even if it does go PFFFFT! it's not the end of the world (never had one go PFFFFT! though).

Put WD 40 on it and let it soak. Run it through the die like stated above.Slowly, Use safety glasses.I have done this many times when getting in a hurry ( bad mistake) but I wouldn't throw the brass away.

Just kill it with WD 40 or oil, they don't just go pfffft, a few years ago there were xray pics of a members thumb with a primer anvil in it. Dad had one go of once, it was also not cool.

This is true... They don't just go "pfffft"... They ignite and go bang.

That's why I said be VERY careful when you do it. And don't have any exposed powder anywhere nearby.

The do go "Bang". If a primer, which is an explosive, versus smokeless powder which isn't, went PFFFFT, it would be because it's a dud.

And a good primer will expel the bullet from the case and lodge it in the throat. Blown up actions have been documented many times as having occurred because a round had no powder, the shooter didn't realize they just had a squib load so chambered and shot another round.

That said, deprime in your press as everyone has stated. Wear that eye protection!

Thanks for all the good advice. Wd40 was a thought I had also. I remember mad dad always tellin me never use wd40 to oil a gun. Because it would penetrate and foul the primers.
