Which Chronograph?!??

There will be some smart people that chime in, I have a master shooting chrony that l'm not sure I can trust. You have to make sure they're fully un folded or you get false high velocity. I've seen some pretty un believable numbers with my 300wm. Velocity is extremely important measurement in any ballistic program so I would take to heart what some of these more experienced long range shooters tell you.

I work at a public range so in a very short time, I've seen all the options.

I have:
Oelher 35P
Chrony base model
Magnetospeed

If you are budget minded the Chrony is fine even though it's the lower end. The other optical models work well but I don't think the return on investment is as good.

The Oelher is the gold standard.

On a day to day basis the Magnetospeed is neeto :D. It has some challenges with air rifles bot it is MY GO TO CHRONOGRAPH

I just purchased a new chrono after an unfortunate mishap with my old one (i shot it). I did a ton of research. I went with the Magnetospeed v2.

I have an Ohler, Chrony, Superchrono acoustic, Prochrono, and Magnetospeed. While the added barrel weight of the Magnetospeed may effect the accuracy of lighter weight barrels by effecting harmonics, for easy and accurate velocity and ES, the Magnetospeed is hands down the most reliable chronograph under any lighting conditions. I have not had any accuracy effect with my #5 and Rem varmint weight barrels. It is also my go to chronograph since I have owned it. It's about time we see some advancements in chronograph technology. IMO.

Kurzzeit is probably the best chrongraph made for about $200 more than the Ohler. Better mounting system, better screens, faster electronics making it more accurate.

Competition Electronics ProChrono Digital Chronograph

the link above is fro the pro chrono. check out all the reviews. Midway USA. I bought one and it has worked flawlesslly. If i spelt that right. But I used it to set up my gun with a turret and it seem to be dead on. I would recommend this one to anyone. No frills but works great. Also I tested my turret out to 800 yrds and it was plus my volicity reading was less than 10fps apart on the chrono. Savage 6.5x284 140 berger H100V 49.5grns seated so they still fit in the mag. My 2 cents.

Loving the magnetospeed as well. Seems to be really accurate. Made shots out to 1324 yards last weekend using the data straight from that rig. Messed with wind calls a little but elevation was spot on. It had to have been giving me some good measurements. It does shift my groups a bit with it on but only maybe a 1/2 MOA. Must better than going down range and setting up screens and then cursing when a cloud rolls in and suddenly your readings are off. It doesn't care what the weather is. gun)

magnetospeedhands down.....if ya want i will sell you my practically brand new Beta chrony cheap as it never gets used

My vote is for the Magneto Speed. I think my blood pressure has gone down since going to it. The others I own will be for sale.

Yes, I've been looking ,too.

I was going to get the CED2 from the LRH store.

Then I seen the acoustic one, Supercrono I believe, and thought I liked it.It seemed like it did away with most of the problems with screens and error readings and such.Provided it was set up right.

Now I'm kinda leaning towards the Magnetospeed. It does seem like a nobrainer that it would effect impact point. As I work up a load, I'm looking at group size as well as pressure indications. That would make the decision for this one difficult.

Now if I went with the Oehler, wouldn't I have the same problems with error readings and no reads as any with skyscreens.

All I know is I have been so very frustrated through the years with the four different brands I have used in the past hat this Magnetospeed is like the best present I have bought in a long time. It is super fast to attach, very compact and has not missed a beat yet. I mainly use it for getting the best ES on loads and if it changes the impact at all it really does not matter for me.
