I'm assuming its a PST. If that is the case, I have one on my .308. Good quality, easy to use and I really like the reticle (mine is MOA). For the money, I'm not sure you can do any better. I have shot the rig out to 800 yards and taken game at 500 yards, no problem with either. Enjoy it!

I don't think it is the PST model but the new HS model for that price. I believe the major difference is the PST has the illuminated reticle and the HS is the hunter/shooter non illuminated reticle. I could be wrong.
I helped a young man get started in the LR game this past summer/fall that had bought the PST model so I've had some exposure to it. It has very good glass and tracks like a charm.
For me personnally I would prefer the HS model in that I'm not too excited to depend on any batteries or electronics on any of my hunting scopes. The down side of the HS model is I'm not certain that they come with a covered turret or exposed turret, if they come 1/2 MOA or is 1/4 MOA as I've read conflicting data from various sites.
I do know one thing - Vortex has stepped up to the plate and for the price you get a pretty dang good product - not to mention their warranty policy right now is as good as there is.

As for base/rings, I am a big fan of EGW. Call them, they talk to you, walk you through the process, get you what you need and then service it if needed. You can spend less and you can spend a LOT more but I think they do a great job.

FYI: I have seen some HS models advertised on different sites that show 1/4" MOA on vert. as well as windage and they have both turrets capped. One of our local sporting goods stores here in town has the HS model LR with covered turrets but it does have 1/2" MOA. for vertical.

have you ever ran a box test on that scope to see how well accurate the turrets are?

The "LR" model has the exposed elevation turret and 1/2 MOA per click.
The standard model has both turrets capped and both are 1/4 MOA per click.
