Me and my shooting buddy went out to stretch it out to 1000 yards today. We have done a good bit of shooting at out to 600 yards, but today was both of our first times at 1000. It was pretty windy with a 8mph variable wind with gusts up to 20mph. The direction varied from our 11 o'clock to our 2 o'clock. This was definitely not the best day for our first 1000 yard shots, but it was the only day we were both off work. We were shooting at a 12X12 inch square piece of AR500 steel hanging from a stand. We were using the Bulletflight app on my iphone for our drops. I was shooting my Rem700 5R in 300winmag customized by Mark Gordon of Short Action Customs. My load is winchester brass, cci250, 76.7gr of H1000, 208gr Amax, 20 thou off lands at 2870fps. My buddy was shooting a GAP 7WSM with 180gr bergers.

We started at 600 yards, and I was right on with my first shot dead center. We then moved back to 800 yards. It took me 1 shot to get my wind right, but after that it was a hit every shot. We then moved back to 1000 yards. My first shot was about 3-4 inches high and left. My second shot hit the bar on top of our hanging plate. My 3rd shot was right on. After a few more hits, we repainted the target. My buddy shot some but was having a lot of trouble with the wind. He got 1 hit low on the plate and put his rifle up to cool. I then took another turn. By now the wind had settled a little bit and was mainly from our 1 o'clock at about 12-14mph. I took 1 shot and hit just off the right edge of the plate. I took a tiny bit off my wind and shot again and got a good hit. Then i held the same place and shot 2 more times with 2 more hits. When we went to look at the target I was shocked to see my group on the plate. The 3 shots measured just 2 1/4 inches! I know this was just 3 shots, and I may never be able to duplicate that group, but I was still pretty proud of it and wanted to share it with everyone here. The first pic is the group on the plate, the impact at the bottom of the plate is from my buddy's shot. The second pic is our range, and the 3rd is my rifle.

Very impressive. I can only hope to shoot like that on my first poke at 1000. Hell to be honest I'm just hoping to hit, grouping would be a fantastic bonus

I remember my first time shooting at 1000 yards. lucky for me there were plenty of folks on hand to help me along. That was quite the leaning experience. I still get shivers thinking about the first time I put the bullet on target from over half a mile.

Yep, when you see and then hear the hit at 1000 it is a huge rush. Our rifle deer season doesn't open here in MS until right before Thanksgiving so I have time to do more shooting out to 1200. I have a place to hunt with some large fields and potential for up to 1000, but probably most likely around 800yds. In Mississippi there aren't many hunting opportunities farther than that.

I hear that. The lack of opportunities makes me head west at least a couple times every year. BTW great job.
