What is your EDC hunting knife?

I bought a beautiful handmade folder in Arizona decades ago. I used it for EDC. It got all scratched up and plating worn off. I kinda regret that now. My main EDC is a plain Kershaw Leek but I have a variety in rotation including new flippers in Magnacut. View attachment 743567
I've got that very same Kershaw. And a knockoff a friend gave me.

I used to carry a Mel Pardue Benchmade with micarta grips, until my housekeeper's helper stole it from me. We now have a different housekeeper?

Figure a woman making perhaps $50 for a two hour gig; a $400 knife is a find, but she likely sold it for $20, because she was sort of stupid, methinks?

Most guys I know run something very similar Outdoor Edge or similar replaceable blade knife in the pack or kill kit for field dressing keeps things razor sharp without sharpening in the field, and extras blades are cheap insurance. Then a favorite fixed blade 4-6" carried on the belt horizontal for quick access or strapped to the pack strap so it doesn't dig into the waist on long hikes.

Spare? Almost everyone brings at least one extra fixed blade or a few replacement blades. Nothing worse than a dull knife mid gut job on a backpack hunt.

Your mix of custom fixed Outdoor Edge covers it perfectly for daypack or multi day trips. Smart and practical.

Everyday carry, probably a Spyderco C07PBK4 pocket clip, steerhide loop but, changes often. Used to be Randall # 3 trout N bird , for just deer hunting. Believe it or not got a Swiss Tech Haltbar from the walmarts for $68 bucks, Jesus have cut a ton a beef with that knife, it's as good as any $400 Benchmade, have ever owned. The canvas micarta handle was a bit too slick but, put a couple spaced out turns of hockey tape, cured that. They got a folder there too, Wurdig they call it, about $35 bucks, insane little bastard of a lemon peeler, apple slicer, trout slayer!!

Every kid I went to school with carried a pocket knife from the time they were 6 or 7 years old. I do not recall a single one being used in a fight and there were lots of school yard fisticuffs.

It is still pretty common in farm country and small towns for men to carry pocket knives. I remember being at at BBQ in Hythe Alberta, population about 700. One of the ladies asked a new loans officer at the Bank, that had transferred in from Edmonton, to borrow his pocket knife to open boxes of Burgers. He said he didn't have one. Without even thinking and with no malice, her instant response was an incredulous, "What kind of a man doesn't have a pocket knife?"

I gifted him a new Uncle Henry Stockman the next day. Ran into him a couple of years later, he was still carrying it and said he now can't figure out how he ever got along without one.

I'd feel like I wasn't dressed if I didn't have a knife on me.😁

I've been carrying the Carbon Fiber Benchmade 940-1 for going on a decade. I had 2, then I misplaced one and looked for 2 weeks for it, ordered another and now I have 3. It's not only my EDC knife, but my deer hunting knife too. I have some additional knives I'll have in my pack, but it does the full job.

AJ
I carry the same for EDC.

Hunting big game is this...

But in a kydex sheath in the pack, too valuable to lose it. For me this one is irreplaceable as I did not pay for it - I found the "Lost Batch". I carry a Magnacut Speedgoat (which was also a gift) left shoulder pack strap or belt almost always outdoors. I LOVE the Speedgoat. I have other skinning, fillet, small game etc. for other uses.

In the backpack is always a Cold Steel interchangeable with several extra blades. Along with that are 2 customs skinning knives.

Hunting or not in my front pocket is typically an Eye Brand 2 blade trapper and a clip knife on it as well.

I know there are plenty of ways y'all hunt.
I'm curious what is chosen, how it's carried, and if you bring along a spare.

I'll go first.
I do a combination of various hunt styles. 5-8 day backpack in, car camp with my daypack, sleep at home in my own bed and daypack.
My knives don't change regardless of the style I'm participating in. I keep an Outdoor Edge w/3-4 replaceable blades in my pack with the rest of my processing gear and I have a few different custom 4.75-6" fixed blades I carry horizontally on my belt or vertically on my pack's shoulder strap to stay off my waist.
I keep pretty much the same kit all year long, dove, quail, squirrel, javelina, turkey, mule deer, elk, pronghorn, bear, bighorn, desert bighorn, and even bison. I carry a benchmade bug out carbon scale with S90V blade everyday even when hunting. when hunting I carry a Marsupial Gear skeletonized handled Havaloon switch blade in a kydex sheath on my shoulder strap of either my pack or final rise vest. In my pack if after bigger game I have my Diamond Blade Summit 1 and 2 combo, along with a Wyoming saw.
With these I have taken care of elk at the bottom of canyons and Bison on the Kiabab.
I have a collection of custom and semi custom and collectible knives including a #1 Randle like my dad sent me during Vietnam.

You better not lose it, there is no more S 90 V steel available. Crucible Industries is no longer in business.
