Does anyone hunt with 22-250 anymore?

That picture reminds me of hunting with my friend in NE PA many years ago. He would shoot 20+ chucks in a day with his 22-250 Rem single shot heavy barrel. It was Remington's special varmint rifle (can't remember the model) probably 30+ years ago when he bought it.

Back in the 80's and 90's I did a lot of rock chuck work. Still have a few ranches that have monster problems with them. I don't have much against them anymore so I rarely bother them.

When we did we only used our elk rifles (6/06 on up), and no heavy barrels. Out to 300 it was offhand or sitting, from 300 on out we would set up on the ground generally over a day pack and or a bipod. We shot a lot of them between 300 and 700. My biggest summer was 458 of them.

It was darn good practice when done this way and come elk season those darn bulls seemed awfully easy after a summer of this kind of practice. Reading the angle, wind, mirrage etc wasn't ,all that tough.

Good days

Still hunt with the 22-250? Just a little LOL
:p

I was comparing the case dimensions of a 22 creedmoor to a 22-250. I think I could make srp 22-250 by just sizing down srp 22 CM brass to 22-250. There is one spot that makes me question it. Only one way to find out for sure.

Must be missing something but why...?

That way i could save my lrp for big game or true lr practise. Use a fast twist 22-250 for cheaper lr varmint/ predator hunting and even some minor lr practice on the cheap.

You could go AI as well then, which is pretty much a 22 CM

So...either way you'd have the cost of dies:)

Local pawn shop had a used set of AI for cheap the other day...if you need, want or desire let me know and I'll stop by and see if they still have them

Hey thanks for the offer buddy. I appreciate it! Hold off for now. I have a family member that was in the ICU over the holidays so sitting on cash until we're clear of that. I have a 1-7" twist Colt barrel that I should mount and test before making any new purchases. But I really do appreciate it.

The weather has been perfect for calling in the morning the last three days. Got this male at sunrise and missed another single at the third stand which hung up at 340 yards. Did five sets today and had coyotes at 4. Two sets they just would not come in closer than about 600 yards. These had certainly been called in before.

Bonus was when I got gas today in a rural town a rancher asked me if I was killing any coyotes as I had my whites on. I told him I got one. He said to come hunt his ranch. Gave me his number and said he has almost 4000 acres (which we marked in OnX) and a lot of coyotes. Said just call me so I know you are hunting. Even marked where he was seeing them. Said he got one off the deck a few days ago that was in with the cows.

Was a good week of permission on new ground. Picked up about 8000 acres of permission.
