Remember the Accelerator line of cartridges?

Reading some of these threads reminded me of the box of 30-06 Accelerator cartridges I bought in the early 1990s. They cost a lot of money when I didn't have a lot to waste and I never hit a thing with them. They seemed like a gimmick to me. Did any of you find them accurate? The one time I thought I really had a chance, the coyote was so close, all I could see was fur in the scope. I fired and missed.

I tried them when the first came out and couldn't get them to group. Bought a 22-250 and never looked back.

Wow, that brought the 80's back to me. My dad had some for his Rem 700 30-06 CDL. We took some Jack rabbits with them, mostly within 50 yds or less. It shot ok at those distances and left big holes in them.

That brings back the 80's for me too! Good old sabot rounds. Never shot them as I never had a chambering they were in at the time. Pretty nifty idea though, even if it didn't work out.

Well, I'm glad to hear it wasn't just me! I was using a Remington 700 BDL I wish I still had. When we moved to Indiana I sold it in a fit of frustration. That's life. Now we're back in Arizona and I bought a Savage Model 12 with a .223 bull barrel. I have a feeling it's going to get heavy fast. Coyotes, watch out this fall!

I had a pack of 30/06 accelerators back in the 90s that came with a rem 700 BDL I bought from a friend of my father. rifle was zeroed with some heavy bullets and the accelerators shot significantly higher as expected but did not group worth a darn. I did shoot a WT doe with one at about 200 yds. Dropped her, hit high behind the shoulder with no exit. Performed like a varmint bullet. Never shot at an animal with one after that.

I never bought the loaded ammunition but bought the sabots and loaded some up for my .300 mag. Shot a few and decided nope these don't group.

I ended up with a couple thousand sabots I always thought it would be fun to play with 70 gr bullets maybe they could group better

I remember being a kid and having a relative show up to hunt pronghorn with accelerator ammo. I found it hilarious at the time, because he could barely hit a paper plate at 100yds. I was able to put down a better 5-shot group at 100yds with my bow, than he was with his rifle... and I was using my own fingers... no release.

I still have some of them . Mine are 55 grain I think it was the bullet weight verse the rate of twist not being compatible but that's just my thought . The brass did work well for reloads .

Oh yes…I bought a box of 55gr/30-06 back in the 80's. Grouped poorly and POI was more then a foot off at 100 yards. Gave them to a buddy….Results we're similar to mine.
