Sheep hunt 27-1 idaho

If you contact the fish and game they will give you a harvest map of where the last 10 years or so of sheep have been harvested. Should help you get started. Looks like either from the river up or from the top down. A few airstrips to choose from as well. I guided on the river for the better part of ten years so it's tempting to have a river expedition experience but river logistics can be a limitation. If you have time do a week from river access and a week from fly-in. I'm applying for 27-2 but might eventually try for 27-1. Also if you contact all the biologists some of the previous people who harvested have made their contact info available. Lots to learn! Good luck, you will need it

I've hunted the early (mid Sept,) deer and elk season around Thunder Mt. 3 of the last 5 years. that is very rough country and looking at that map, very remote. that's a long pack in to the indicated sheep country but it is the ultimate in God's country! one of the favorite places on earth that I've ever been regardless of hunt results: animals 3, greg zero.

Didn't realize I haven't posted on here lately but I got good news, I've got me a sheep tag! Still trying to figure out how exactly I wanna go about getting this done...

If you look at the previously posted map, it shows the upper reaches of Marble Creek, SE of Thunder Mt. having good success. That drainage is accessible by way of Yellowpine and Stibnite (mine office) to Thunder Mt. I have hunted the high country around the source of Cornish Creek and access down to Marble Creek looked fairly gentle from up top. if interested I can send more info by PM.

Ya I'm curious how you did as well! Did you get one? More importantly did you even see one?! I've heard lots of people can spend weeks in that unit and be lucky to see one. A friend of mine did just that last season and spent 21 days in there and only saw one banana head. He helped pack one out of there two years ago but last season was hot and Smokey late into the season.

my buddy drew the same tag this year so we're going in for redemption. We're planning on using the whole month plus to find something cuz I spent 21 days on my hunt an finally seen 4 little banana horns the last day. Best advice I can give anyone is be in shape mentally an physically! If you go up high make sure an take lots of water, it's a long ways down to water! It's a drain! I did 100+ miles on my hunt. All the places the biologists tell ya is good sheep country really is good sheep country. Just gotta catch em when there in it.

Definitely planning on putting the glass to work but still sitting on the fence as to what access. I hiked in two weeks ago and was amazed how much snow was still in the upper basins! A lot. august will be less smokey this year and we can see far and wide. One or two weeks of wet storms late August wouldn't hurt either can't hardly wait…
