"AR" Definition

Let me just start by saying that I am a Benefactor member of the NRA and have been for many years, decades actually.

With that being said, I don't think our conservative elected officials can continue to block every single new proposed gun law in the face of the significant number of civilian deaths due to gun violence. The recent mass shootings have gotten all the headlines lately, but street thugs are killing people at an unprecedented rate.

Citizens (voters) are charged up right now and want SOMETHING done. Any official who refuses to do ANYTHING to help alleviate the number of tragic gun deaths in the country probably won't hold office too long. Should the political numbers tilt any farther left, the shooting sports will be decimated by the liberals.

I don't know the answer to the gun violence problem in this country but it's in all of our interest to get a handle on this before things get any worse.
I agree we have a severe violence problem today. But not as bad as Nazi Germany, or the Ottoman empire or other similar events throughout history. I also don't know the answer, but no government has ever been able to stop killing. I agree that if something doesn't change the left will try to do away with our sport. They try every chance they get, and this is their ammunition.

I know that this doesn't add any value to this conversation but just for thought. I would like someone to fact check me but I believe I'm accurate. In 2020 there were only 454 rifle deaths and 662 deaths caused by bare hands and feet. In 2021 There were 2061 deaths caused from the Covid vaccine.

This cannot be said enough. Remember, they don't really care why, just that you are watching and requesting support.

i usually state my request for support or opposition in paragraph 1, state the outcome I object to shortly in paragraph 2, then remind them that I watch the vote and use that information to make my party and candidate votes on Election Day.

This is not a Democrat vs Republican issue. @Rep Anthony Gonzales (OH) is a Republican and voted for all of this. There is a long list of these votes….check out the bill at

See how your reps voted on it:
Long Rant: You are right👍 but - something that we ALL need to be mindful of is the fact that "they" are going to try to hold gun manufacturers liable, (which is ludicrous)!
Yes, there are laws that are SUPPOSED to protect the manufacturers. No, they don't work. (Look at Remington)
They ARE going to go after the manufacturers. (I read that Daniel Defense has already been tagged for liability in this latest hell)
All they have to do is go after the manufacturers, one by one, & then there will be none....no need to outlaw guns! (See what Canada has already done about "pistols")
Look, we all know this is just a gun grab ploy. HOW CAN A MANUFACTURER BE HELD LIABLE FOR WHAT A LOST, SICK, DISTURBED, ANGRY, EVIL PERSON DECIDES TO DO WITH THEIR PRODUCT?
I mean - where does it end? Will they shut down: Car, truck, boat, plane, walking cane, motorcycle, farm equipment (tractors), lawn equipment (chain saws), sports equipment (bats) and tool manufacturers (hammers, saws, screwdrivers) just because someone decided to use their quality product to kill someone with?
It's crazy but if we all just sit back all fed & comfy it may just happen!
JMO - Radman
PS: For those of you who like to argue & nitpick, don't! We ALL already know about liability lawsuits because of poor or faulty design or assembly or the fact that someone's coffee or fries
were too hot. 🙄

Once again you are so right!👍

is not a qualified individual;

That's the wording that I REALLY don't like. They get to deem who is qualified or not AFTER something has happened and put the ownership of the incident back on the manufacturer.

What makes a qualified individual….age qualified? Mentally qualified? Training qualified?

"AR" stands for "ArmaLite", not "ArmaLite Rifle". They used the AR designation for a handful of shotguns too, like the AR9 and AR17. Colt owns the rights to use the name "AR15" for their rifles, which is why Armalite's small frame AR is called the M-15 today.

Regarding the definition, you'd have to read the text for a specific bill. Typically they don't use the term "AR" unless the bill includes a section that bans certain firearms by name. The one attempting to increase the age to purchase a semiautomatic rifle to 21 includes all centerfire rifles and shotguns that can accept a magazine that holds more than 5 rounds. This wouldn't include semiautomatic rimfire guns like a 10/22. It might be taken to include semiautomatic shotguns like a Benelli M2 that come with a 5 round tube, but can easily have an extended tube attached.

It also includes a ban on standard capacity feeding devices, which includes anything other than a tubular, 22 rimfire magazine that holds more than 10 rounds.

If passed, this bill would likely lead to an increase in the price of standard capacity magazines that are manufactured before the law goes into effect. If "repair kits" remain available it may not have a major impact on the price, but the requirement to serialize new magazines makes it unlikely for that to work. It's unlikely it would affect the price of semiautomatic firearms since it doesn't ban the sale of new semiautomatic firearms.

(c) Qualified individual defined.—Section 921(a) of such title is amended by inserting after paragraph (29) the following:

"(30) The term 'qualified individual' means—

"(A) a member of the Armed Forces on active duty; and

"(B) a full-time employee of the United States, a State, or a political subdivision of a State who in the course of his or her official duties is authorized to carry a firearm.

Basically it's an exemption for LEOs and active duty military who are under 21.
