Leupold Custom Shop update

Fair enough. My bad I apologize. I would highly suggest one if you want to stretch it out. BDC's are great till you go to a new environment because environmentals change depending on weather and elevation. Dialing and taking into account your environment will make you much more efficient vs relying on a fixed reticle.
No i apologize , I was half of that conversation .
I guess I get fired up once in a while .
Anyway I called the Leupold custom shop, this morning to see if I could get a dial for my scope ?
They said , If your scope already has an exposed turret with numbers on it , yes we can make you a dial.
But if it has low profile type covers on it ,without numbers on the outside ,No we can't right now,the only work the custom shop is doing is the dials on the scopes with certificate or set up wit generic dial.
Guess witch one I have ,yep the low profile 4-12 vx2, no go
For now unless I can find a vx3 3x 15 x44 .

Hey we are thinking two different things.
I was serious about getting a dialup turret, two years ago I took my leupold off and put on a vortex , can't get used to it so going back too old scope and want to try dial.
Old scope has duplex with two dots and top of post , so I had it sighted in for 0-300 cross hairs, 400 first dot , 500 second dot and 600 top of post.
Sorry if you thought I just shoot and look for dust and correct.
They'll ship you a dial for a new cds-zl scope but the custom shop won't make one for your old scope

@cornshank Are you looking for a VX-5HD? You're not going to find a VX-3HD in 3-15x44. I have an extra one that I just put on a rifle the other day. Not really doing me much good at the moment.

I can tell you what my guess Leupold's issue with their custom shop is. I have the same issue running an organization with a large number of employees. Not enough live bodies. Employees are extremely hard to come by these days, and as often or not, you are training your new employees from the ground up. Trainees have no business in a custom shop. Leupold sells everything they make and always has back orders. They have to dedicate the employees they have to production and shipping, the custom shop is an extra service, and they most probably just can't staff it with quailed personnel. It's the way of the world these days. And for the record, I'm not a Leupold cheerleader, I have a couple MK5's because I really like them, and I don't own anything else they make.

I just sent a 6 x 42 in that I had a CDS dial put on years ago. They said they needed to replace with a new 6 x 42. I asked them if it would have the CDS dial and they said they could install one. I don't know if they do that through the custom shop but they're doing it for me for warranty. But they did get back to me pretty quick on it customer service still seems to be good. it's the first Leopold scope out of the 50 or so I've owned that's had a problem.
Here's my understanding of what Leupold will do. They will make the CDS dials and perform warrantee repairs, but they will not do 'elective surgery' on our scopes until they re-open their custom shop. I have a VX5-HD that I wanted converted to the CDS and they won't do that, or change reticles, or any other changes that don't fall under the warrantee umbrella. Bummer for sure, but I still like their products.

Converted to cds?what do you mean by convert ?they told me this morning that if your scope has existing generic dial or certificate for cds they will make you a dial .

Before covid they would convert an older scope to cds
Oh , my mistake , thought all VX5 HD scopes already came with a generic dial with the numbers on the outside?
Just checked web site all models show dial except one,
The 2 to 10 x 44?
So chances are 2old2care can get his cds dial, unless he has the only one that doesn't show a dial.

1 employee who cares is worth 1,000 who don't.
If you pay more & stay clear of college grads, you can build a workforce that cares.
Then with any process that allows caring employees to tell you when you're doing something stupid, you can stop doing stupid things as a company.

Leupold has done stupid things for quite a while, driving themselves straight to nearly zero influence over the scope market.
The only way that can happen, given where they were, is to operate in an unconscious and uncaring mode. A fresh out of college manager mode. It's not a capitalist model that can survive the dark challenges ahead.

I called Leupold four or more years ago about changing a reticle and was told then that the custom shop was closed and would be for the foreseeable future.
Yes ,this morning they said aside from cds dials that are already set up no other work until at least July .
And that was probably a guess on his part.
