New build 264 Win Mag vs 6.5/257 Weatherby

I. Believe the. 257. Weatherby. And. The. 270 Weatherby cases are nearly identical! If you have difficulty. Finding 257 Weatherby. Brass. To. Neck. Up, you might be able to. Use 270 Weatherby. Brass. And. Neck down !!??!! You. May. Also. Want to consider. The 270 Weatherby. Mag fir your. Build??? My. Factory. Rifle shoots 150 ABLR,s. Very. Well

Let me know how your build turns out. I have been a 6.5 fan for many years and always want to see what others are doing. I understand about having the barrel as I have become a used barrel and blank collector somehow.

The only big difference is neck length. So if you throat it long for the 156 or 147 the wby can still shoot lighter bullets close to the rifling. I think wby cases show less throat erosion too. The shape of the shoulders and long neck keep it from toasting your barrel as fast. They both are so close in performance you wont see it. I shoot a 6.5/257wby and a 6.5 saum. I use long throats for the 147 eldm and i get 3200 with the saum and 3300 with the wby. Probably wont build another wby version. The performance per powder used isnt there for me. The little saum is doing plenty for me. Plus it shoots in the 1s. I shot hammer 121s at 3600 and it shot respectable groups. Those shot 3/4 of an inch at 300 yards. Very flat shooting. Any of the 6.5s are pretty good for long range as far as how much energy they keep at distance for the little recoil they have. I know i will never need more power than. 6.5 unless im hunting something that can eat me. I love my little creeds too. 2900 with 147s with rl26. Fun little things to shoot at distance. One of mine shot 3.9 in at 1000 yards. But it still isnt a magnum no matter how you slice it. Build the one that tugs at your heart and be happy as a clam either way.

6.5 PRC is a much better choice...equal or better velocities and much kinder to barrels!

I don't like the PRC or Hornady for that matter.

But explain how the PRC will be kinder to barrels. And I have yet to see a PRC hit 3200 with 156 EOL. Everything I've seen has it more in line with 6.5-284 which has a reputation as a barrel burner.

I agree with your premise on the radius shoulder and longer neck helping with throat erosion, that's why I was considering the 6.5/257 variant. And if throated like a Weatherby with a long freebies I believe it could be driven harder than the 264WM.

But I went a slightly different direction. If Manson hold to his lead time I should have my reamer in 3-4 weeks. Once I have it built I'll divulge more info. Also with the way I went I won't have to deal with limited or custom dies.

Quit reading Hornady propaganda and Hornady reloading data it's all BS. You really think a 69gr capacity case is going to outperform a case that holds 14gr more powder? Dude......pull your head out the clouds, you're wrong. That's like saying a 300win will outperform a 300 norma, same powder capacity difference.

You can't say you made a decision and not tell us!! Well I guess you can cause it's your thread but c'mon man!

Not that it matters but I'm a 264 fan. Got a Sendero to work some loads for sitting in the safe.
