What makes a 6 mm inferior too a creed

The allure to a 6mm whatever is the high bc bullets from 100-115 grains. Even twisted correctly the 6mm rem due to its 2.233 long case will have too much bullet in the case or have to single feed.

The OP, HAS,... a SHORT Action,.. Rem 700
Even, the Creed with LONG 115 grain Bullets,... won't feed "well" !
UN-less, the Bullet is seated, "Deeply" in case.

I don't have. 6mm rem here since it isn't 1976 but I'll assume the boat tail would be about 300 thou further into the case and significantly handicapped

Perhaps inferior is the wrong term.
If the goal is shooting 95 grain partitions for deer and hogs both do so with fervor but this is Long range hunting so I always err on the side of long pointy bullets going where we want them too out a ways

That's why I shoot long 264 cal bullets out of a bigger case than a need more

I have had several 6mm-284s. Barrel life is short but if you want a fast it is a great choice.
Using 6.5-284 Lapua brass necked down and neck turned. While it requires a few extra tools and a bit more effort it is not difficult. I use Redding body die and bushing die after brass is prepped.
The heavy rig:
Over a decade ago, I built a 6mm-284 on a #7 28" 5R Bartlein 1 in 7.5 twist. Shot 107 Sierras and when they came out the 105 Berger hybrid. Only shot 2-3 shots in a row then let barrel cool. Was as careful with this barrel as I could be and it lasted right around 1100 rounds. some data:
The 28" barrel and 105 Bergers. Seating depth is set so loaded ammo would fit and feed from a a Wyatt's mag box in a SA Remington. Jump to lands .065":
58 gr of Retumbo was most accurate with velocity of 3307 fps
RL-33 shows on the scene:
Using same seating depth and other components I worked up some loads.
62.5 gr 3376
63 gr 3414
63.5 gr 3453
64 gr 3484 most accurate load requires a drop tube to get the powder to fit
64.5 gr some pressure signs
Should anyone try RL-33 in their rifle be sure start low and work up slowly. Your results may vary.
I used the 64 gr load with RL-33 to shoot a coues wt at 525 yds using the 105 hybrid berger. That buck wasn't huge and the bullet killed just fine.
The retired barrel sat around until one day I decided to cut off 3 1/2" from chamber end and rechamber it myself on my lathe. The rechambered barrel once again shoots! I am getting just a bit over 3400 fps with the shorter barrel using 62.5 gr of RL-33. It is now setup as a single shot with bullet seated .010" from lands. I don't think the new chamber will last very long but it is only used to wack long range varmints and occasional steel.

I also have chambered two 24" Rem 243 takeoff barrels. Both shot the loads below. The twist rate is too slow for anything heavier than a 95 gr bullet.
55 gr nbt @ 4100 with 51.5 gr varget this load vaporizes the small rock rats and kills coyotes and jackrabbits with authority
95 gr classic hunter and 51 gr of RL-17 Fed 210m 3465 fps Friend used the rifle to kill a book coues wt a few years ago.

Factory takeoffs are inexpensive and it is easy to rechamber. Only issue besides twist is that they tend to foul more than a custom barrel.
Will I continue to have a 6mm-284? Yes. Will it be a regular shooter No.
I use my 6 BR far more often for shooting at steel, rock rats and other varmints. FYI with a 30" barrel the puny 6 BR will get 3900 with a 55 gr ballistic tip using 35.5 gr of IMR 8208 XBR. Gets 2800+ with 105-107 gr bullets.
IMO if you want to shoot often the 6mm-284 is not the chambering to use, barrel life is too short.

How do you like the 25-284? Considering it for my next build but I wanted a short action.
Might not work well with long bullets (short action). I've got a 25-284 chambered for the 131 B Jacks or Hammers. Feeds ok with a long 700 action, but had to mess with the feed rails a little. 284 cases are fatter.
What I was afraid of. I really want the short action. If I build long Ima go with a long caliber. May just do the 25-284 and stay around the 110 hammer length or less.
