We finally got his first bird 2 weeks ago. Been tough hunting on our spot but persistence paid off. He started going with me 2 years ago when he was 5 and got to see the show on a bird I took. Carried his 410 w/ TSS last year and watched a few strut just out of range at 40 yards. Stepped up to a 20ga and hammered this dude at about 11AM on April 20th. It was the 8th day we'd hunted this year and we put some serious mileage on those little 7yo legs. Sure am proud of him for hanging in there even though those walnut brained birds were doing a good job making his old man look like a dummy. I'd give up every bird I've ever taken for that one.

I know how ya feel on giving up the birds you've taken just to get him his . My oldest son killed his first bird 5 or 6 years ago on my bday , best birthday present I've ever got! Plain and simple .
Our season here in Wv this year has not been a very good one this year . For us anyhow .
But that's a fine looking bird for your young man for sure . I'd bet if he wasn't hooked before he'll be a turkey junkie now for sure

Been taking my nephew hunting since he was 5. Was with him when he got his first Squirrel, Deer and Turkey he thinks I'm his good luck charm! Always took time to get good pics and relish the moment with him.
No doubt he will continue to hunt. Passing on the hunting tradition is important but giving of your time is even better.
Looked like an awesome day!
