I got my first press and above to start diving into reloading. I have found pretty good loads and have powder available for my .243 & 6.5CM but I'm on the search for "THE" powder for 175-190gr 300wm... I have H4350 I'm trying to trade that may work but what are the top 3 ideal powders for wide range temps? H4831 is what I'm looking at, Will H1000 work if I can get some or is that better suited for 200gr and up?

H4831sc has been my go-to for any bullet under 200gr. And even 200gr in 24in barrels. H1000 works well for me but lacks the speed with the lighter bullets. I was surprised with the performance and temp stability of ramshot magnum with 180s, and availability has been pretty stable until lately. I guess that would be my top three if I wanted to stick with bullets <200gr. But I'm not sure I'd be willing to trade h4350 for any of them lol

Thanks guys. I have 175 LRX, 180 tsx and just got a box 190 VLD hunters. Hopefully stumble on some H1000 or H4831 soon and find a load the new savage likes

Are you saying H4350 for 300wm or just in general? I have 10# of 4350 and a couple of Varget & superformance. The 223, 243 & 6.5 are taken care of!

You are on the right track, lot's of good advice here. But, you won't stumble on any H1000.
You might want to also look at Hybrid 100v as a low pressure high velocity powder for several calibers.
Best of luck!

For 175-190's (I run the Berger 180 EH's in one of my Win mags) I've had the best accuracy and speed from H4831SC and RL23. H4831SC had the best accuracy and what I'm running. I like H1000 in my other win mag that runs the 215's, first combo I tried in that gun and had no desire to mess with it

190 VLD Hunting is exactly what I am running with H1000. Sub moa well past 1k. I have 2 nodes, 1 at 2850 and one at 3050. I am loading to the slower of the 2 as it shows the best accuracy and consistency #s.

190 VLD Hunting
76.3gr H1000
Nosler brass
Winchester magnum primer

You may or may not give up a little velocity using H4831 or H4350 in comparison with other powders, but for accuracy in .300 Win. Magnum, these two are hard to beat. They're worth trying and they're not nearly as temperature sensitive as some of the others.
