Rebarrel of Remington

I bought a Remington 700 LSS in a 300 RUM on this forum about a decade ago.
About 5 years ago, I decided to put a muzzle break on it. The gunsmith I found to do it did a great job. He fabricated the brake to look like it is part of the barrel. He also made me a thread protector that looks like there is not threaded piece on the end of the barrel.
Everything was great until I bought a suppressor. I bought my Rugged suppressor because it would handle the 300 RUM.
I tried the Rugged 5/8 x 24 muzzle break on there and it was too big. I thought he must have had to do it 1/2 x 28 because of the size of the barrel.
After buying a 1/2 x 28 device I determined it was too small! So I haven't measured it yet, but if I had to guess it is either 9/16 or some metric threads.
So where do I go from here? Find some kind of adapter or rebarrel the rifle?

I know, I don't post much on this forum. But I have read it for years and I am impressed with some of the knowledge here. I am not really looking to take the action and start over completely, but have considered replacing the pretty laminated stock with something a little more weather proof.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

Chris

Thanks!
I think I better Measure the threads first!

Identify what you have for threads first. If you can't find an adapter, you could always have it cut back and rethreaded. Would only lose an inch max.

Got a rifle that had 9/16 threaded muzzle. I assumed it was the standard 5/8 (that's what I get for assuming). Later learned that he used suppressors were threaded that way and hence the reason for the 9/16.

Local smith chopped and rethreaded. Still stupid accurate. This is your best bet unless you just want a different caliber 😉

In today's environment, it would make more sense to stick with the RUM. I have several rounds of ammunition.
Or I could sell it all on Gun Broker and retire to a private island in the Caribbean. If they are selling a case of Rio 16 gauge shotgun shells for $300, I have a small fortune in 300 RUM!

As someone suggested, I found an adapter. It threads perfectly and doesn't add any length and not much weight. I need another muzzle device. I plan on putting a Rugged Muzzle Break instead of the flash hider that I took off of my AR-10.

Just for info, muzzle threads are pretty much always 5/8" long. You'd not loose an inch. Occasionally, you will find one that's longer, but not often.
Some of the adapters were a tube that screwed on the barrel, then the exterior threads were past the end of the barrel. Thus adding at least the length of the threads past the end of the barrel. V

The post I quoted was about cutting off the threads on the barrel and re-threading. Said nothing about adaptors

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I wasn't being specific, just making the point that it wouldn't change barrel length much. It's always good to have more specific numbers.
