Are you shooting as much with the ammo shortage ?

I have gone to the range a few times lately but I took more pow pows and only shot them about 6 times each or less .I even hate working up new loads burning up powder and primers .I don't this ammo and reloading supply shortage will end for years .It was like this all 8 years of oboma .I am going to swap meets from forums that are based out of GA the prices for stuff is just way too high .I was teaching a youth shooting group but that had to be canceled from lack of ammo .I am starting to mold bullets for my pistols again to be able to shoot much .I am thinking about making a civil war model cannon to shoot rocks out of for fun because ammo is cheap .

Now there's a great IDEA! We should all start shooting cannons! They certainly don't use POWDER! Too much idle time thanks to Covid for ideas and questions I see popping up on this site lately! Now....airguns or ( potato) guns....maybe a solution!

I'm blessed in that I reload, step out of my reloading shop and have a pistol range plus a 100, 200, & 300 yard rifle range right there on my property. I'm shooting the same working up and perfecting loads for .243, 6.5 PRC, & .300 WM. I've reduced shooting my 5.56 & pistols. I have a lifetime supply of powder, bullets, and cases, but not in great shape for volume shooting with primers. Talking with a friend that owns a gun store we agree there will be a very long wait before primers are plentiful again.

I've decided to stop all firearm & optics spending until primers are once again plentiful. This includes my next build. Just not moving forward until supplies to use it are available.

As for the question; Yep, I planned ahead 50 years ago and kept a good supply on hand over those 50 years, finding the sweet spot and rotating my ammo pile and reloading... but always having enough for a "really" rainy day. Back then folks thought I was a bit of an alarmist, now they think I'm a genius. Ok, maybe not a genius just smarter than I look, I shoot when I want and as much as I want. What's that old fable... The Ant and the Grasshopper... sometimes you never see the one that gets you. If we all get another chance keep that in mind, you don't have to hoard, just slowly build that war chest at every opportunity you get. Good luck guys, it ain't over until we give in, keep your Creed, Faith, and Ethos.

Mostly 22lr and by mostly I mean only 22lr at this point. I have a good supply but as others have said I'm keeping my power dry for now.

Cannon.... I have said it for years - I want a cannon!

I have stopped pistol matches for the most part, carbine too. I paid for a run and gun but may just consider that a donation to the cause (high round count carbine/handgun, weather, being a sorry *** grumpy old man who should know better...).

I shot more than I wanted to last weekend but it was an "event" with old buddies I have known since Jr High. Back in the day we struggled with anything over 100 yards. This trip was a weekend get together and was just really cool (we are early 50's now). After a few zero'd at 100 everything else was 535 out to 1200. I had not shot my 6.5CM past 710 until this weekend so time was spent between there and 1200. We had a blast!

Now it is back to more dry fire than live fire at the range. Looking to go when the wind is up or temps swing. More watching and studying wind, working on 4Dof (well, making sure I am putting in the correct data), recognizing the significance of all the littel data and saving the powder, primers, and freedom seeds...

Might make an annealer...

Nope! I cleaned out my safe's 'closet queens' that I haven't shot like forever by putting them on consignment with my LGS. Even with their 25% commission I doubled and in one case, 9X, their original investment. The owner said that people are not even trying to negotiate. I suspect that first time buyers are not even thinking about an ammo shortage (yet).
Don't worry, I still have one of each (handgun and rifle) caliber that I can reload for.

Just for a laugh, our county sheriff is sponsoring a gun buy back except there is no "buy". You give them up for free. In addition, you can turn in ammunition....I am thinking that I can put a 'turn in ammo here' sign on my vehicle. LOL

These days I've been fortunate to do my live fire shooting on the Army's dime, uncle Sam's pockets are deeper than mine plus I get paid to play. I was just getting into the reloading world, I guess I have really bad timing.

In times where I need to plink I use a old Red Ryder on cans.
I use several air rifles to practice my target skills.
A Crosman DPMS SPR to scratch my full auto itch.
Even a slingshot can help when I need to fire something.
Plus is no hearing protection and setting up long range targets.
My 2 cents on getting by.
