Not trying to start a argument in the responses of others in here. But I am considering buying a new rig. Primarily hunting and some target shooting. rifles I have considered are
1.mossberg patriot predato. 2ruger American 3. Rem 700adl sps. 4savage 110. 5. Weather by vanguard meat eater (Howa)
now I own and shoot a savage long range 111 in 300 win mag. Love it. It is heavy. 8+lbs rifle. 2lbs scope. Sling. Ect. Iam really set on a Weatherby. I like the stock from a factory set up and to me it looks and feels great.
but I am kind of set on the 6.5prc. The patriot is lighter at 6.5lbs. Cheap at 400$ and I could thrash it. The 110 savage is 510$. So I could still get a higher quality rifle in 6.5prc that is obtainable. But I have considered these and I want your feed back as to why you choose the cartridge for hunting and some target shooting.
7 rem mag(Vanguard)
257 weatherby (Vanguard)
6.5prc (Mossberg or savage )
maybe a 300wsm
Maybe a 6.5 C M (Ruger American)
I live in western oregon. Hunt deer and Roosevelt elk. But I have the 300win mag for the big work and just not Sure what to get next for a lighter rifle and on a somewhat of a budget in the 4-600$ range. Any suggestions ?

If your truly set on a Weatherby rifle, why not go with a Weatherby caliber? The ammo isn't budget friendly, but performance is spectacular and will handle your "lighter work". 7 RM is pretty close in performance to your 300WM. If you want to shoot alot, the 6.5 CM would likely give you the best barrel life if you care about that.

Take a look at the tikka t3x lite. I have one in 6.5 creedmoor and it is the most accurate rifle I've used. Lots of ammo choices and incredibly easy to reload accurate loads

Not sure if you reload or not but with the mossberg patriot predator at least the one I have in the 6.5 prc factory loads just fit in the magazine. They cut a little V (might be more of a U) notch in them so they fit. So you can't load any longer then factory. I have the Ruger american predator in the 6.5 creedmoor its accurate enough but I didn't get the acis version.

How does your mossberg shoot? I here great things and then I here bad things

I thought the 7rm was super close to the 300. In been thinking about the 257 weatherby as well.

My mossberg shoots around a inch at a hundred I didn't take a caliper to measure used a tap to measure so don't have exact. But I haven't had it to long and haven't done allot shooting with it. I shot a three round group. But I have a cheaper scope on it and haven't spent much time at a bench. I mainly got it since I don't like to double up on calibers and I wanted threaded barrels since I got into suppressors.

I have a 6.5-300 weatherby that's similar to the prc. I love it. Imr 8133 seems to work the best for me so far but going to try some 156 Berger's with n570 when I get some time. I do think the amp annealer helps with freebore when reloading the weatherby's from the few I've reloaded for. Might not be as necessary with the prc.

Wait! Be patient and search. Forego instant gratification and spend 50% more next year and go old school with M70 .264 Win Mag just to maintain cartridge genesis consistency. Somewhat...

I'll second WarrenOliver's recommendation of a Tikka T3x lite. I bought one for my lightweight mountain elk rifle in .270. It weighs less than my Remington 700 BDL 7mm mag, has a smooth action and shoots sub MOA.

My opinion my not be popular here, but I had a Weatherby recently. It was a vanguard ramge certified model. Was supposed to more accurate than the off the shelf vanguard. I had issues with getting it to group woth factory ammo a d with reloads. Dealer who was a warranty service center for Weatherby checked it out and shot it and agreed that it had to go back. Weatherby checked it out and said that they were able to achieve 1moa accuracy (.96 actually) with one particular factory ammo (nothing like what I wanted to shoot through it) and they sent it back. So, I decided to trade the rifle in kn something else and the dealer, whom I had done a ton of business with advised me tgat they were not interested in offering on it or any other Weatherby for that matter. They took me to see their manager and he showed me their inventory of rifles that had been through the same process with the same number of dissatisfied customers. They didnt do this to bash Weatherby, but to give me perspective on why they were not able to offer on the rifle. Im 100% done woth Weatherby! I'm not one of those basher types, but that was a bad deal!
