Started my day just like everyday, feeding our cows... Was leaving the house with a couple bales to feed, and I saw some deer in our creek bottom. So I put the binos on them and I see this dog laying in the grass not 10 yards from the deer... stopped the pickup ranged the dog at 670 yards, dialed 3.8 MILS on the Arken. Held .8 MILS right and squeezed the trigger on my home built AR-15 Chambered in .224 Grendel. The 88 gr ELDM left the barrel at 2860 fps to connect with the dogs neck. Dropping her instantly. My farthest coyote kill to date! Gonna be a good day.

Absolutely beautiful coyote, and the shooting ain't to bad either, doubt if I'll ever even come close. Good shooting.

that's how our Mondamtana coyotes look like, we have some darker ones also, but nothing like those back east. Nice shot!!!

Thanks! We have some really pretty dogs around here with lots of red and grey tones. Yet to see any real dark ones, but hopefully someday. We have a bunch with mange too... I need to get better at calling seems we always lose a calf every year to the coyotes

Heading your way in September, wolf and coyote,50 acres backed up to Glacier, rich doctor friend. What might be an average shot?If you can answer. I can hit at 1/4 mile if wind, isn't a big factor, and if things come together. However I won't be taking shots at that distance if I can help it.

Man is she blonde. You know they say there will be 77% fewer blondes on earth in the next 4 weeks. I have a solid black coyote I'm after at my property. Got pics but no visual. Coyotes in PA are not the easiest to hunt for.

I would love to get a black coyote killed, just dont think there are to many running around here in eastern CO. Wish you luck on getting your black dog killed. The coyotes out here are very educated as well. They usually see a pick up and are gone! We also have the USDA come and fly our place every year and kill a bunch from there plane. So the coyotes are very skittish around here usually. This one gave me time to range and get a good solid shooting position... Her last mistake.

Shep, if you nail that black fellow, make sure you take the time for good pics, thanks for sharing. most of ours you guys would call white.....probably difference of being out of the sun and constantly being in the sun.

I shot a 44 pounder here that is as red as a red 🦊 fox. I had a calico coyote I almost got on first day of buck season. But he knew where to go and stayed in the grapevines and I had no clean shot for 100 yards of watching him. He stopped one time in that 100 yard stretch. Right behind a big tree. Are they that smart or just that lucky.

If you are on the west side of Glacier, you will have miles of Forest service land, say in that pole bridge country. Shots can be very close or in clear cuts or roads you can stretch it as far as you want. I would suggest you keep away from distress prey calls as Grizzly are still out. Most wolves have been educated to "man made" howls, cow elk chirps, coyote distress are some I would use. Remember, the wolves like the coyotes will try to wind you. If there is snow on the ground, run the roads with your window down, look for fresh tracks and you may here them howl.. I personally do not like to howl back as they usually know the difference. Get as close as possible and use previously mentioned. A lion hunter cut fresh tracks in Feb here and got off the road a ways and called them in, 1st two wolves came in so fast he didn't get a shot (rifle) but he killed the 3rd one. I like to have 3" 4-buck in a shotgun on my lap, nothing faster for killing running game... I used to shoot ATA trap, been on state team, I am not going to miss with 4 shells in a Benelli SS, 60 yards or less. YMMV
