It'd be interesting to see what the plus p style throat would do in one of Rich's chamberings. It seems he's got the throat dimensions figured out to pretty well optimize all of them for max speed and accuracy but you never know. My 270 sherman was built with a 6.5 reamer and a 270 win throater that was really long. It generates top end speeds that would be hard to achieve with an optimal throat for the 170 berger. Still shoots good though with some jump. With the psi drop I've read about from the plus p, I'd say n-570 is out for lack of space and n-565 and rl26 will be winners. All this coming from a guy that doesn't own a 7 max...
That post actually brings back memories long ago of seeving ball powders to get more consistent grain size for better sd/es and having slightly different custom burn rate powders.
I swear there were some guys I knew that would have counted each kernel of extruded for a load just to see if there was a measurable difference. Making sure every kernel was whole. I'm anal but thats too much for even me. Imagine doing that for 10rd of 50bmg
Is the fire formed brass available now? I'm just doing my homework.

I am getting ready to send off parts to Whidden for this exact build. 7lbs scoped SA 7 Sherman Max build. Working 140-160 bullets flat and fast! To me a perfect mtn rifle. Targeting 143 Hammers 3275-3300 with 24" barrel. I think I'll get there.

Will you be running a 1:8 or 1:9 twist on your build? I know I will be shooting heavies for competition but lighter at higher velocities for hunting elk:165-180, antelope 130-152 and somewhere in the middle for my upcoming safari. all monolithic, cutting edge, barnes or hammer maybe hornady gmx if I find a good load. So would a 1:8 start throwing flyers with lighter bullets?

My barrel is a 1-8. 1-9 is pretty standard for the lighter bullets, but I have shot 1-8 in other magnum 7mm builds and never had any issues going down to 139's. Haven't ever went below there.

Still trying to make sure I get the best bang for my buck. I talked with rich about brass life and he said he was getting really good life 15+ with the 6.5ss from the adg brass. I bet the 7 max would be similar. Do I need to go about annealing, how often to get the most from my brass and how should I do it, machines, simple torch, that induction annealer, ect. Just trying to research before I buy sorry for asking so many questions. Thank you
Salt bath annealing is by far the cheapest simplest fool proof method. Just dip your case into the molten salt for 6-7 seconds, pull it out, drop in bucket of water, you're done. Many threads on salt bath annealing, check em out.

I am pretty sure the 7 max is the same size bolt face as the saum, correct? Has anyone ever run a sherman or anything short with a .540 bolt face out of a magpul hunter stock magazine?
