Long time lurker first time poster.

I just ordered a VX-5HD 3-15 x 44 scope for my 700 in .270. I have read a few things that the main tube doesn't leave much room for mounting on long actions and I most likely need a rail.

I have never used a rail before, should I get 0MOA or 20MOA. I was looking at the Warne Mountain tech rail and then I was thinking Seekins low rings or is there a more affordable alternative that doesn't sacrifice too much performance?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Talleys or Hawkins hybrid rings will work great with the Vx5s. I have them on several LA rem 700 and clones with no issues. Yeah the main tube I short but you can still set proper eye relief without using a rail.

I use the Warne Mountain Tech rails and rings. Love them.

Should I use the lows?

On a strictly hunting rifle I would skip the rail and rings and go Hawkins Hybrid 1 pieces with their built in 25 moa. I don't like having a rail in the way of my losing port on hunting rifles

I use EGW rails and good light weight rings. I never use the vertical rings they are strong I just hate installing them and see no advantage. The 0 degree or 20 degree is really based on how you use the gun. 20 degree is not needed unless you are shooting past 700-800 yds. With the 44 MM objective lens you will be fine with low rings unless you move the scope back so far that the front of the scope hits the rail.

I like good quality picatinny rails on all my rifles. It allows me to swap scopes around quickly if needed. Good quality rings and rails are very repeatable. No, it's not perfect but for my needs works very well. I don't hunt big game past 400 yards but I shoot target out to 700. I can swap a scope, sight at 100 and bang steel at 700 in under an half hour right at home. Excuse me I just got a little choked up on how blessed I am! lol

I have a CA Ridgeline and don't want to use a rail this time in order to save weight. If I use the aforementioned Hawkins or Talleys does anyone know what size I need for a VX5HD 3-15 x56?
Any insight is appreciated!

@Brozonelayer With your carbon barrel you will need high height rings.

I got away with tally mediums on a steel barrel & 56 mm objective on a sporter contour. Hardy any room underneath to mount scope caps. I'd be skeptical to use mediums w/ 56mm obj. & a carbon barrel.
