338 SHERMAN MAX

made a mistake on my measurement with the 240 bulldozer. didn't realize it was bottoming out in the hornady's comparator tool. I lifted the insert out .100 to touch the ogive. most of you probably already knew this, but all my aol's listed for this bullet are .100 shorter. I ended up drilling out the bottom of the tool to get the right measurement.

a little info for the 230 eld-x. and 265 ablr. Got some pretty good results with n560 out of my barrel. With the 230's, I shot 70 to 75 gr in .3 increments. They shot
70- 2759
71- 2816
72- 2856
73- 2901
74- 2954
75- 3016 no mark on case, little stiff bolt lift. 74.1, 74.4, 74.7 made one ragged hole.
I'll do a ladder next somewhere in here. N560 did a little better than rl-17 and h100v which both shot comfortably at 2985. N550 was a little faster burning, and topped out a little bit slower than 17 and h100v.

265 ABLR's shot best with N560 topping out at 2804 fps with 72.7 gr with a small swipe on the brass a 2 finger stiff bolt lift.
Also finished with the 240 bulldozer with N560. from 69 to 74.4 in .3 increments
70- 2750
71.2- 2814
72.1- 2844
73.2- 2871
74.1- 2901
74.4- 2926 max.
everything was shot with fed 215m.
I haven't done enough tuning with these yet, but my barrel loves the 225 bulldozer, and shoots the other 3 above real well. 240 bulldozer comes in second place. It does NOT like the 250 berger at all.
Just don't know if my 10 twist barrel will stablilize the 240's or the 265's out further.
I love this round, it's my favorite out of my Shermans. I'm having another one built off a blueprinted 700 with a 9.3 twist bartlien for the the heavier bullets.

Oops forgot to mention, I throated mine .100 and it didn't make much difference with the smaller bullets, but did well for 265's . Now that I'm building another for the heavies , I wish I would have left it alone. I think Rich's original reamer design is perfect for the 250 berger, 230 eld, and 225 dozer.

Jeff what you think about the .1000 for the 240 dozer?

they both seat the same distance into the case. the problem I have is the end of the neck sits right over the middle of the band where there is some air space. And only touches about .200 of barring surface below it. It doesn't leave it very stable for mag feeding. before I throated it, it touched the other side of the band. With my barrel the throating didn't make much difference in fps (10 feet) with these two bullets

You Gona try some 270 or 285 Hornady out?
I tried the 285's but I didn't have enough FB to get enough powder behind it. I have some 270 dozers , and plan on shooting both of them in the new gun when its done

Guys....parts are at the smith and should see it early December.
I sent a dummy with a 250 Berger and a 240 Dozer. Both seated with the boat tail body junction.1000 forward of the neck/shoulder junction. With the 240 Dozer this put the mouth of case covering the indent on the bullet, and both ogive were +- 3 thou of each other. With a 20" barrel, what powders would you all suggest? Guesses on velocity?
Cheers

H100v 2850'-2900 with the 250 Berger and something less with the 240 Bulldozer
This is a GUESS:)
