Vibration dampener

I do my own reloading. Just wondering if adding the dampener would bring groups in tighter is all. Thank you all for your replies
I used the limbsaver on my 300 rum. I was getting 1/2 groups with a load I hunted with. With the limbsaver about 4 in. From receiver it shrunk my groups by 1/4. I proved it by taking off and on. I used it for a couple years. I didn't like the way it looked. Took off . Don't even know where it is.

Limbsavers do work on some rifles. I've found they make the biggest difference on thin barrels. On thicker barrels I haven't noticed enough of a difference for me to keep one on the barrel. People that say they never work just don't have any significant experience with limbsaver. A quality gun matched with ammo it likes is more imprortant for small groups than a limbsaver. Limbsavers are cheap, so it won't cost you much to test out to see if it shrinks the group on your gun.

Hello all

I've been building up my hunting rifle and have been told by multiple people that adding a vibration dampener to my barrel I would increase accuracy. Just wondering what everyone's opinion is here? Myth or fact??? Anyone who does believe in them have a link to where they purchased theirs? Thanks!
The Limbsaver tuner has been very efective for me on a lightweight Howa 243. I reload for most calibers, but I got factory Hornady ammo shooting sub .75 MOA with a few adustments of the rubber donut.

I tried it on my Competition 7mm-08 with a heavy barrel and did not help much, the heavy barrel reduces recoil already so the dampener's help is very minimal. But to your point , on thin barrels they work great.

Years ago, some of my buddies started hunting doing a lot of deer in a state that required shotguns with slugs, which I have done a lot of since then. This was well before the Hastings rifled shotgun barrel became available, and they hadn't yet started loading sabot slugs. What these guys did was to wrap the entire length of the shotgun barrel that stuck out beyond the fore-end with black electrician's tape. The whole arrangement ended up being about a big around as a toilet paper tube, and they said that it worked great to dampen the vibration of the barrel. They were getting 2-inch groups at 50 yards, with smooth-bore shotguns with choke.

I haven't tried this with a rifle, but I have to think that the barrel-dampening concept works. This shotgun trick is admittedly an extreme example of applying the concept. Like everything else in shooting, there are lots of variables in the equation, and barrel vibrations & harmonics are just one of them.

I have used Limbsaver Deresonator on several rifles. These are still available on Amazon, ebay etc. I did notice a slight improvement on newer rifles but did notice a large difference on older rifles. A Winchester Model 70 in .270 from mid 1960's and Remington 7400 in .30/06 from mid 1970's.

Mine was also a thin 26 in. Sporter weight barrel I had it on. Never tried on any other rifles though. Yes it was ugly and I had to cut it off.

Quite common in RF BR. May not even be competitive w/o one. Hard, but not totally impossible to tune those loads to the rifle....

In the case of a rimfire, I can kind of get my head around it. Seems to me like it would be so easy to bump or otherwise move it on the barrel and not be aware of it. Will read up, thanks!
