i have a magneto speed v3. Every time I use it I get "seven shot error Sensor 1 misread" It will read about 1 out of 4-5 shots.

I called the company got a recording said leave your info and they would call you back. Been waiting about 2 months now.

I think my distance to the bayonet is correct. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I'm getting one for Christmas so I'm interested in the answer. Is this a new chronograph that doesn't work or a new problem on one that worked previously?

My Magnetospeed has worked great when used in comfortable temperatures. It's a V3. When I use it in single digit or teen temps the velocity measured is higher than what I expect. I wrote to the company and got a response which informed me the higher velocity is to be expected when the gun/ammo is cold. Never heard that before.

There are a number of adjustments available in the unit. If I get a little time I'll look at the manual to see if something might help.

Have you changed the batteries?

The unit is less than a yr old. It worked the first couple of times then started getting the error message. Changed batteries didn't help. The manual explains you might get that error. It does not tell you how to fix it.

I have another one you shoot across the screen. Difficult to use at a public range. Thought this might be the answer. With the lack of customer service I think it was a waste of money.

I just looked through the manual. Double check these things next time out. Some of the you can try at home

1. Before attaching the bayonet make sure the thumb screw is at the bottom of the threaded shaft.
2. Choose the correct combinations of spacers along with either the thin or thick rubber pad.
3. Mount the bayonet to the barrel on a flat portion of the barrel and so that there is 1.5" to 3" of space between muzzle and beginning of platform.
4. Check that the spacing between the top of bayonet platform and bottom of bore in barrel is 1/8" to 1/4". ( 0.125" to 0.25" )
5. Check the bayonet to ensure it is parallel with the bore.

I would suggest RESETTING the unit to get to a known state. You can do this by going into the menu and scrolling down.

What caliber and type of bullet are you having trouble with?

"error Sensor 1 misread" could be a setup error or a hardware error. Obviously the device is having a problem picking up the first sensor during the shot.
For setup: Signal strength might be an issue. How thick is the barrel? You need to use the thick spacer for thin barrels and the thick spacer for thin barrels.
For hardware problem: Could be the cable or one of the cable connections. Try a different cable if you have one. They usually come with 2 cables.
CALL SUPPORT AGAIN! And again, if you have too. They have a 2 year warranty. If the bayonet is bad they will replace it. I have spoken to their support a couple times over the years. They can fix stuff. As with all of the small companies getting some support over the holidays maybe difficult. Explain you dissatisfaction with their ability to return calls once you get them on the phone.
I would replace my magnetospeed with a Labradar even if they were free.

if you get the bayonet too far from the bullet it will give you that reading. Try and cut the distance you are using now in half, or there abouts, as long as the bullet wont hit obviously. its better to be closer than further away. mine worked really well when I had the square rod into the bottom of the bore. I bought a lab radar and love it but, if Im just going to do a few quick shots I still use the magnetospeed.

If that dont work I would do as others have said.....call support

Im getting a Magnetospeed for Christmas. Do you like the Labradar better than the magnetospeed and why?

Ours did this for the 3rd time. We need to send it back again. Ordered a LR and so far quite happy with it. I am not sure if the magspeed does well with the repeated recoil. Most of our rifles seem to be big heavy recoilers with muzzle brakes. I think the brakes are hard on them due to the double recoil effect.

more and better info!! tells you whats happening 50, 100yrds out. so you can get a better idea of your B.C. and make better inputs into your calc for drops

Dont the bullet manufacturers give you the ballistic coefficient for the bullets you load? How does this Chrono add to that?

The Magnetospeed is a fine chronograph and hard to beat. Velocity readings will be just as accurate as Labradar.
I like the Magnetospeed cause it is more transportable and easier to use when shooting prone or in field conditions. It is much smaller and lighter. A battery in a Magnetospeed will last forever. Labradar drains batteries quickly and you even have to get an external battery pack like those you charge cellphone with. So I would not feel slighted if I found a magnetospeed under the tree this Christmas at all.
About the only drawback to the Magnetospeed is you need to be able to tie your own shoes to use it. But that is the case with a lot of things.
