NEW 6.5 WIN. LONG RANGE MAGNUM!!!

Nope I absolutely have not. Never owner one, never shot one, I don't think I've ever held one. Was truly asking. I am surprised it is that difficult when Nosler reloading for 26 nosler lists the most accurate powder tested with a 140 @3055
3055 is stI'll pretty fast. And for low recoil there are lighter 6.5 bullets than the 140's. The 264 will go way slower, or loaded hot, almost as fast. No 6.5 kicks that bad anyhow, but back to case capacity. I've had a 338 rum, two 28 noslers, and have helped buddies load for 7 rum and 300 rum. With those big cases, I don't know how many times I've tried to start a grain or two bellow the max charge listed in a book, and saw tons of pressure signs. My 338 rum I went off of barnes recommended load for the 225 triple shock, saw pressure. Went down a half grain, saw more pressure, went down another half grain, blew the primer out of the case. Then... probably wasn't a smart idea.... I loaded a round 1.5 grains over the max listed load, PRESSURE WENT AWAY! this was a few years ago. Sense that time I've talked with a few reputable gunsmiths in my area, and learned a lot about those huge cases. Mainly, start at near maximum load and work up. If you can't get that case close to full, seat the bullet further back, or use a throating reamer to add more freebore..... that's a lot of finicky games to play when you could go with a 264 and load that thing like you hate it.... or load it as mild as you want

Show me a box of 6.5 creedmore that reaches 2900fps so many claim too get! Show me a box of 26/06 that gets 3200fps.as far as belts, size your brass off the shoulder and it doesn't even mater
Anyone hitting 2900 fps from a 6.5 Creedmoor is running it hot, but I've watched a lot of guys do though from 26" barrels.

A belt on a cartridge case doesn't make a bit of difference one way or the other. They're just a relic left over from the parent case. That said, if I'm going to use a case with a .532 case head, I'd rather use one with an actual case body that takes advantage of a .532 body diameter instead of giving up potential case capacity buy using a .513 case body.

Can you get a factory 264 win mag with a 1 in 8 twist barrel?

I haven't looked at any other than the sendero sfII - that is a 1 in 9. I have heard mixed results stabilizing the 140's - I am guessing the 147 eldm is off the table with a 1 in 9?

I am not a custom rifle guy, I am not opposed to them, They just scare me - i am afraid if I build one, then I will need 10 more and I have 2 kids to put through college first. So I have limited myself to factory offerings:)

If somebody made a factory rifle in 264 win mag with a 1 in 8 or 1 in 7 twist so I could shoot heavier bullets, something like the sendero sfii or the xbolt lr mcmillan, I would probably go that route over the 26 nosler.

All of them!! LOL

Honestly all of the standard length belted mags run into those problems when run at SAAMI spec OAL. with heavy for caliber or long VLD style bullets.
I have two 7mm rem mags, a 7mm-300 win, and a 300 win. All of them have the highest velocity, lowest ES in velocity, and best accuracy with compressed loads of retumbo, h1000, h50bmg, or 7828 (I don't use much 7828 any more).... what compression issues are you talking about?

Just a comment! I have a soft spot for great old cartridges.....264 WM and 257 Roberts being my favorites....I've shot both over 40 years and grew up with my Dad shooting the 264 since they were first produced....late 50s or early 60s.
Fair enough, I'm just interested in why someone picks a certain cartridge over another.

I wouldn't call them issues at all. All I meant was that I've crunched a lot of powder in the belted mags. Like you, I typically get my best results with compressed loads.

I took Okie Man's comment to mean that the belted mags don't run into heavily compressed loads.

A 1:9" twist will stabilise ANY 140gr bullet, VLD OR NOT.
The reason people THINK their rifle isn't stabilising bullets is due to poor accuracy, nothing more.
I have witnessed a 1:9" twist barrel shoot 140gr Partitions into 5" @ 100, the reason was due to seating depth and poor loading techniques.
I have one match and a few load testers down a new Bartlein 1:8" twist barrel in 264WM, I cannot see a single difference in group size between it and my 1:9" barrel.

Go figure.

Cheers.

My 1 in 9 twist model 700 cdlsf shoots 1 1/2 inch 5 shot groups at 300 yards with 140 grain Berger hunting VLD's. My son has a Sendero in 264 and it shoots 140's equally as well.
