I guess I'm the odd man out. I dont mind the x-bolt mags. Yeah they're plastic, but they haven't given me a single issue. I prefer the x-bolt magazine system over the a-bolt II. A box mag attached to a floor plate seems strange to me.

I handled a Hell's Canyon Speed and Weatherby Mark V side-by-side, both chambered in 30-06. The HC was priced around around $1k, while the Weatherby was $1699.
The HC was miles ahead of the Weatherby IMO.
HC had smoother action, lighter, stock was plenty stiff (unlike a lot of plastic rifle stocks), finish was top notch, and the trigger was great, would be just as good as my Sako and Winchester M70 triggers with only minor tweaking and adjusting. It broke clean everytime with basically no creep. Assuming the accuracy is there, I'd have no problems owning a Hell's Canyon.
Now, the Weatherby was the exact opposite of the HC. Heavier, bolt was a lot rougher to operate, and the trigger was absolutely awful for the price. Fair amount of creep and it didn't break clean. Just my two cents.

Anybody know what the magazine length is on the 300 win mag on them? I have a sako a7 right now and I love it but am limited by the stock magazine length.

magazines are fairly long. I've loaded some 178gr edl m and seated out and had alittle room Im not around the measurements I took at the moment.

Just curious, I'm new to reloading but been trying to load up some 220 eld-x in my 300 win mag and am stuck because I can't load them out any longer than magazine length of 3.34 inches. My nosler liberty in 6.5 284 gives me way more than the standard magazine length. Was interested in the hells canyons to see if it was an option to load them long if needed. Thanks

You'll need at least 3.7" mag for those 220s to be seated properly.
3.615 on the hells canyon will work well with a 7rm and 180 pills

Yes, the mags will reliably feed 3.6" loaded length, that's what I settled on as the max for a hunting load that has to feed reliably 100% of the time under pressure.

I own the earlier and pricier Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker in .300 Win mag. It is superbly accurate and has a pretty good trigger, almost as good as my Timmy trigger on a 6.5 CM Ruger American Predator.

Browning (Howa) makes very good quality rifles. If a Browning trigger isn't feeling good then it needs a bit of honing and adjusting. They are well made triggers with good components.

Howas are made in Kiyosu Japan by Howa machinery, Ltd. They also make Weatherbys and parts for Smith and Wesson.
Brownings are made in Belgium or the Miroku plant... the largest gun manufacterer in Japan, located in Kirochi and owned by Fabrique Nationale. There is no relationship between the two manufacterers... and no comparison.

I have a Hell's Canyon LR (left hand) in 6.5 Creed. It shoots under .5moa at 400yds even with the trigger set at its minimum weight of 3lbs.
I just installed a Timney trigger which is crisp and breaks at 2lbs. I also chucked the fake brake and put a Vais contoured fit brake on it which I like much better.

I really like the three lugs with low bolt lift and the McMillan stock.

Dollar for dollar, the HC-LR is hard to beat.

So Manitou, what do you mean by "...and no comparison" (between Howa and Miroku).

BTW, I think when my A-Bolt was made back in the '90s Howa made it.

If you go to www.howa.co.jp (as-well-as other websites) it is the company's history and gives a timeline of guns made there. No Brownings are mentioned throughout their history.
