33 Nosler load

Fully dressed with a bushnell LRHS 4.5x18 with sunshade it is 11lb 13 oz. I'll call it 12.5 with atlas rail and loaded...not my mountain gun--but should shoot pretty good hill to hill... It was 9lb 3 oz naked

Shooting for 8.5lbs fully dressed

Have you guys played around with 300 grainers much. I have a 28" proof blank and a Sako AV that needs a new barrel. I am thinking about doing a 33 nosler because it will fit in the action a whole lot better with long bullets than the UM or lapua/Norma cartridges(3.62" mag length) I like running big bullets and was hoping to get a 300 gr over 2600. Any thoughts?

I haven't played with the 300's yet, but hodgdon's data has them at 2550 from a 24" barrel, and seated at sammi length. If you have room to get out to 3.7-3.8" oal you would likely gain enough case capacity to get another 50-75fps. They show the new 8133 powder going 2600. The drift/drop numbers are likely better with the 250gr berger, and even the ced 252mth (or a few of their options).

Sounds like you will have two very nice rifles Ed.. Any way you look at it, you are going to have some fun. Aoudad will be dropping in their tracks and that is not that easy to do. I cannot believe how those things can take a bullet. They don't seem to be much of a match for the ole 33 nos though. Lots of down range knock down out of this baby. Let us know what the best you get out of the 265 is fps.. Always interested to here what others are doing with this fun caliber.

Thanks for the information. I have a 338 lapua but I was trying to find a reason to build up one of my sako rifles with a cartridge I was excited to hunt with and comfortable guiding bear hunters with. It seems like the 2600 FPS threshold might be a challenge to meet even with a 28" tube. I would gain a bit with a coal of 3.62". It may be close enough for me to go ahead and do it. Please keep posting results of your shooting.

I have a 26 barrel on my rig...and I seat my bullets to 3.55 OAL...I have a box of 285 LRX but have not tried them yet...I'm thinking my 265 LRX is mid-2800s but have not Chronographed them yet. My mag box is 3.65 but found seating them any farther than 3.55 effected feeding on my rifle

I shot the 270 eld x yesterday with RL 26 and they shot good. Will test 77gr again to make sure its repeatable. 400 yard group was 1.5" at 2711 fps.

Has anyone had any experience with the 250 gr. Barnes lrx? I'm planning on loading these for my 33 nosler. I've seen plenty of data on their 265 gr lrx but nothing on the 250's.
