You may remember my thread on the re-barrel, sako single shot short action. I must fire the round to eject or pull the bolt. Works well enough1 Photo is a 20 round group shot at 1000 yards Shot in switching winds running from 11 to 6 o clock gusting to 15+ you will see how the wind affected the group.the blue dot is about 2.5" The cross hairs at 25x covered it. scope os Burris xtr2 in 5x25 MRAID. load is 58.8 of rl26 "way to hot going back to 58.6. 147 eldx av 3180 sd of 10.7

What is your barrel length? What brass are you using? Are there any pressure signs on the brass?
30" 1x8 twist "only because I could not find a 1 in 7.5" Nosler 280 ackley neck sized in a redding comp sizer and comp seater! I like flat primers , but no pucker at the firing pin hole , no sticky bolts! 58.7 of rl 26 was on the edge neck sizing worked fine , 58.8 required full length resize. I need a slower powder I have room for 4 more grains in the case but the pressure spike would be bad!

My brother was using Ramshot magnum with his 6.5-06ai and was getting right at 3200 fps with win brass. 26" brux. Might try Ramshot in your 6.5-280ai.

He is probably going to build a 6.5-280ai next so I'm interested in your results.

That's a heck of a group under the conditions. On a windless day, who knows what it could have been.
my burris qtr reticle was a little thick and completely covered the bull. I am trying my 8x32 NF NSX 2nd focal plane to see if better glass would make a difference.

What bullet

Good shooting!
I am a big fan of the 30-06 family of cartridges including the Ackley Improved rounds that have been garnishing well deserved attention lately.

It's pretty impressive to think that the parent case to all these great rounds was developed in 1906 and is still going strong!

Whats so cool is some of these guys are old enough to remember when it was invented! lol

JDD...what spec is your rifle chamber....
Sammi standard or longer throat....
What's your coal with 147....and have you any oal loads with 140 vldhs....

Very impressive! Be hard for me to tweak that load any at all.

How far off the lands? Wonder if you have enough room to seat the bullet out a little to reduce the pressure some.

it is the standard one they sell! haven t settled on a coal . single shot so I don t worry about the OAL just how it engages the lands!
