Took these last week in Alberta. The mulie was shot at 603 yards. Had him lined up for a shot at 900 yards but a hot doe kept him moving. After an hour of relocating, got set up and he finally offered a good shot at 603 yards. A day earlier spotted this old hog of a whitetail at 11am entering a swampy river bottom and managed to stalk him for about a half mile when he gave me an opening for a very quick (and lucky) off hand, 200 yard shot. The picture doesn't do him justice. His 8pt frame was very heavy with 6" bases and 26" main beams. Both were taken with my Cooper, 6.5x284 loaded with 140 JLK's at 2975FPS.

In both horns and body, biggest deer I've ever seen in my life were in Alberta and where I saw them it wasn't even considered there "good" deer hunting areas.

I don't know if it's the minerals, food supply, blood lines, all the above, or whatever but Alberta has some monster mulies and whitetails.

Greyfox, both of those are dandies and would make anyone grin ear to ear, well done!!

Thank you all for you congratulatory remarks. While I have hunted a variety of species over my hunting career, I am a hard core whitetail hunter that will supplement hunts with locally available species like mule deer(or antelope in Wyoming). I have been hunting the agricultural areas of Alberta annually for many years. As noted above, the mule deer and whitetail are big and plentiful with a genuine opportunity for a B&C trophy. IMO, there is very little hunter congestion, and the terrain is very compatible with long range techniques.

Congratulations! A couple nice bucks right there!

Can not wait to get my Cooper 6.5x284 set up so I can take it out.
